Not having enough backpressure is the biggest myth ever. The goal is to have minimal backpressure but maximum exhaust gas temperature. (If the gas cools down too quickly because your exhaust is too big, then its exit velocity is lower, which in turn results in poorer performance).
These mufflers are intended for any of the engines, whether it be the 2L or 2.5L Turbo, 2.5 NA, 3.0. If you are really noticing that much power reduction in low end you should check that they are installed properly (any leaks?), or even go as far as refitting your stock mufflers as a test to see if it is not just your imagination! Plenty of 2.5i drivers here have the mufflers and are happy with them.
