With the 04-06, you take the chrome surround around the gearshifter off first.

05 model Spec.B manual.

that changes things....(just a little) you'll need to follow tangcla's version of pulling stuff apart. the trim is different and so is the ring around the gear.....

Well folks - just finished installing the 1251 into my 2005 model Spec.B. Some specific points that may help others:

*To get the 2 vertical silver trim pieces off (essential for removal of head unit), you must first remove the flat panel surrounding the gear shifter. This is held in with 2 clips (flat head screw driver to remove) at the back of the panel nearest to the console box and drink holders.
*Once done, remove the 2 screws that hold the silver trim pieces in place. Then you can remove the silver trim pieces which each have 3 pressed in hooks by popping them out gently.
*You now have access to the screws to remove the head unit and air con. To be honest - the hard work is now done.
*Install unit and cabling neatly (I used double sided tape), test and put back together.
*As an aside, I put the iPod and cable in the CD case sized compartment in the top right hand corner of the glove box. This compartment pops out easily with a flat head screw driver. I drilled a hole just big enough for the round end of the iPod cable (that goes into the 1251) and fed through. Putting the cable through this way leaves the iPod end of the cable in the glove box with a hole it can never fit through and be lost in the dash.

Thread back from the dead!

I was going to start a different thread but thought I'd start here and post the solution with pics when done.

I got excited when I saw Steve (Zoo) had pulled his car apart as he's a mate who lives down the road but he's got a different console... useless as always :P

I am trying to

* Work out how to get the ring off the AT shifter in an '07 to release the park lock (Yes I got my car stuck in the garage with a flat battery and we had to do some major gymnastics to get the jump leads to it!)
* Work out how to get under the center console (console box and cupholder area)

And I have searched everywhere - I gather from the handbook and earlier post I need to

D_Liberty wrote:....
Step 2: loosened the hand brake cover
Step 3: popped the ring (yes automatic)
....

and additionally if for the console

D_Liberty wrote:....
Step 6: unscrewed the centre console (2 x screws in the rear)
....

but I'm stuck at the first step - getting the leather boot around the handbrake up. I am at the limit of how much I am prepared to pull lest something warp or snap somewhere... I have also been trying to use an old plastic card to leverage between the leather boot and the vertical plastic trim (see green line in pic below)

I can get a 'pop' from the front corner of the handbrake boot and also at the rear, but the front doesn't really lift up at all - it doesn't seem to separate from the vertical plastic side. I get the impression it should lift up totally separate from the console (still attached to the handbrake lever of course.)

Image

* Is the whole yellow section supposed to unclip?
* If not, is the seam where the green line is supposed to separate by pulling the boot up, or is the plastic seam where the blue line is supposed to pop loose?

Maybe my hands are just too girly - I can change my parkers myself :)

Any helpful hints greatly appreciated.

you pull the park brake boot cover closest to the ring first (i mean yank out slowly)

once you have unclipped it you should be able to loosen the rest of the park brake boot cover

so yes it is the whole yellow section but you start from the section closest to the ring first.

I've got a pdf lying around somewhere with intructions so PM me your email if you want

or organise a time that is convenient I can pop by?

Just wondering if anyone has a list of confirmed working or not, iPods which the EA1251 works with.

My gen2 green 4GB iPod Mini works with it :) but I'm wondering whether it will work with the new iPod Touch, iPod Nanochromatic etc. I know the iPhone doesn't work.

Hey guys... sorry to re-open an old thread, but I am wondering if Subaru do an adapter cable that will work with an iPod Touch that gives the Mcintosh control over the iPod? or do you have to manually change songs on the iPod itself?
Also, does the cable at least charge the iPod?

It would be to suit an 07 GT-B!?

Sorry matie I didn't realise you replied  the song scrolls along the bottom of the iPod screen

jimmy, the only iPod cable Subaru sells, doesn't give you control of the ipod via the HU & doesn't charge it, if you can still manage to source the above mentioned clarion adaptor, thats the only way to do what your after.
The clarion adaptor is very over rated IMO, i cant be bothered going back through the thread.... but you don't get a hole lot of control via the HU. You need to setup playlists, & this is the only way to play your songs & you don't get to choose the song you want :( like you would by accessing the ipod directly or a CD.
in hindsight  my preference would be to have a in-line FM modulator (hardwired between the HU & the aerial) then get the Belkin Auto Kit for iPod w/ Dock Connector & use the line out of the Belkin to plug into the FM modulator. The benefit i see of this over the clarion adaptor is you get the full use of the iPOD & it charges it, with minimal sound losses compared to the clarion adaptor

hey chris...no probs mate...

Jimmy S...

like CJ said subaru does not offer a cable that makes your IPod function the way it should.....the closest thing is the clarion ea1251 (which makes it act like a CD stacker that you control via the Mac) but keep in mind that you can still use the ea1251 with any clarion unit and it will give you full control of the ipod via screen or ipod show song names sort by any method you want.....its just that the Mac is old and hence limited functionality other than a band aid solution and make the IPod act as a CD stacker

its a personal choice for this audio mod.... I personally like it as I really only listen to Armin Van Buuren and its usually a 2 hour play so not fussed... i can move it to the different playlists or put other songs in the playlists .... I've got the ipod touch so ...

ah ok...

Sounds like it may be worth going with the Clarion adapter, it just wont have the functionality that I am used to... I have a 16gb Touch as well, so if I can set it up on the main playlist on random, then as long as I can skip tracks, I'll be happy! :)

Although I will probably be satisfied with an MP3 CD 6 stacker anyway?

Will wait until the car arrives and see what's what then...

Thanks for the info fellas!

oh Jimmy S

There's no shuffle functionality.....there's repeat, disc repeat and no repeat

it only plays like a CD and that is all..
