Posts specific to the 3.0 litre NA H6 engine

Sorry re reading my post it sounded very fanboi-ish!! It wasn't intended that way :)

I realise what you're saying about pulling power out of the 6 - last time I spoke to vin he said it was very hard to sticking to the emissions and getting decent power out of the 2.5T as well. I'm basically after a fatter torque curve as well, over top end power - for my driving and the occasional squirt, having a nice power band without having the rev its head off is ideal. :)

Was your spec b tune just a reflash?

no it wasnt a re-flash at all... there was no re-flash tune to work of.

Sean fcrom S&J's here in SA does all my tuning and probably 90% of Subarus in SA.

Ecutek have knowledge of the 3.0R howver a lot of their time has been spent on turbo models for obvious reasons. Ecutek is S&J's preferred tuning tool.

It didnt take Sean long to work out what would work and want wouldnt with ECU tuning on the 3.0R..

The last thing i wanted was for the wgn to be a guinea pig for someone elses R&D.

6 dyno runs from start to finish was enough to see some very favourable results without putting a burden on the car... it has a huge mid range now and some better fuel economy...

Heh-heh. How come you haven't opted for the V-Tune for your car?

Spec B Wgn, the more I read your posts about tuning the more I wonder if it is worthwhile driving to SA to get it done.

All this talk about is making me itchy :)

Actually I am, however I still have no mods to warrant a retune - once I fit the dump and cooler I will.

So you find the 3rb responded well to ecutek? I visited Sean last week and I'm very seriously considering getting it done on my 3rb after some mild exhaust mods. Particularly extited about tuning out the throttle hang on after changin gears (mines 6sp man).

you dont know what the drive by wire lag is??

yes its a 3.0r spec b.

basically it moderates the accel rate while your wheels are slightly turned

ie doing a u-turn or turning out of a T interesction onto the highway you will notice you dont get 100% throttle untilt he car is dead straight

I get that on my GT, didn't realise it was a DBW thing tho, but it's damn annoying at any rate!!

ok yes my 3rb definately does this, makes people think that you can't drive smoothly because power cuts in quite sharply especially coming out of round-a-bouts etc. Didn't realise it was a known issue or had a name. I prefer this to the turbo lag on the GT or STI! Long live the 3rb! Well unitil gen5 that is.

I just spoke to S&J auto and they confimred that this can be tuned out with ecutek. He said that they can tune it to feel more like a cable drive system. I am definately getting this done!

personally & I knew before i started ..

The 3.0R was never going to respond as well ...my daily drive is an STI.. this responded awesomely to Ecutek and Seans tuning ability..

However as pointed out trying to extract power from these models is difficult at the best of times.. All i can say if you have some spare $$$ to throw at some mod's and you live in SA the Sean will warrant all his work and see you have a smile on your face..

The torque in these cars is good for a 3.0L putting it all in perspective.. Its not a huge 6 cylinder and its only half a litre bigger then a 2.5..

They are a beautiful engineered motor..

The 3 litre is so smooth i have on a few occasions tried to start it while it was already running! New mufflers will fix this. What is your sti a rex or lib? I drove an sti lib the other day, the guy was selling it and I was serously considering it. It was an awsome drive but there's a bit of a turbo lag and power that you can't use unless you want to lose your licence. What i like about the 3rb is the available lower down torque. I suppose the ecutek can fix the lack of low end toruqe on the sti? Also sti does not sound like the h6!

The Aussie Car and Image forum http://www.carandimage.com/ has quite a bit of discussion on the VTune. There's a few before and after dyno charts there too from memory.

Cheers,
Deucer.
