Is the plan for Hamish to refurb the callipers?
And the springs on existing stock shocks or getting new shocks too?

Thanks Lee.

Yes Hamish to refurb calipers with some fresh paint at the same time doing some more paint correction.

Springs will be fitted to OEM shocks. Sean from SnJ said this is a good compromise between better handling and comfort. Not all about the go kart feel.

The best compromise between handling and comfort is shockworks :)
Failing that I would probably at least regrease your shocks as was recently posted.

104,000km. Yeah its on the end of its life span. But no signs of leaking or heavy wear. Once I get the mechanic to pull out the struts I'll get him to reassess them. If they are better off being replaced I'll get some replacement (KYB's probably) shocks fitted at the same time.

haha, I just cant stretch the budget at the moment otherwise we wouldnt be having this discussion. Pity Owen doesn't have a payment plan.

Yes will get the stock struts/shocks regreased while they are out and new springs fitted.

Ok, so my car is booked in next Thursday for its service as well as the Tein S-Tech springs to be fitted. I have a question for those with more experience.

How long do you think the stock KYB shocks with an already 104,000km will last with those springs in there? Bear in mind Tein believe they will be suitable for OEM shocks. Do you think I'll get 6 months, 12months left?

Currently the shocks are not showing signs of leaking or wear yet. But that could change with a set of new springs.

I enquired about a set of new Bilsteins. Got a quote back of $1360. Which to me is excessive when I can get BC's or Kido's for equivalent or less.

Basically, I just want to get what I can out of these shocks with this spring setup, then I'll relook at the suspension options once these shocks are dead.

Is this the right way to go about it?
Cheers

I had king springs in KYB shocks on my last liberty. I put them in at 120,000kms and sold the car at 150,000kms and the shocks were still fine.

Thanks Adam. I reckon I'll be ok. But I'll be keeping an eye on everything regularly once the springs go in. The Tein/KYB combo will be an interesting one.

Re: Member Profile - Shav

Hey guys, I have a technical question,

Ive had my sway in for quite some time now. With the stock OEM springs, the sways can only do so much on the stiffest setting for both front and rear.

Im about to fit some moderately stiffer springs (Tein S-Tech) next week and was wondering if I should perhaps make an adjustment in my sway bars to compensate for anything.

Currently under the setup I have now, I get some understeer when I push it hard and some body roll. I want to get rid of that as much as possible. I assume that originally having both front and rear sways on hardest setting is doing that when I should have had the front on the softer setting? (i.e. I should've introduced a little more oversteer)

With stiffer springs about to be fitted, should I still adjust the front bar to its softer setting and let the springs take care of the body roll? Will the stiffer springs help reduce the oversteer I currently have?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Shav

Thanks for that shav. Not sure I completely agree with Adrian's theory though. If his theory is correct, all the tuned by sti libs with pink springs that have upgraded their sways, have made things worse. Judging by the amount of tbsti's with upgraded sways, surely one of them would have noticed a decrease in handling by now if that were true. Rally is a very different ball game. Race cars have so much stiffening in them to make them handle.

I agree more with your sentiments. However, I still reckon it wouldnt hurt softening the sways to the softer setting for a slightly more compromised balance for both wet and dry performance? Wont it help reduce oversteer if indeed the springs are a lot stiffer?
