My name's Paul and I am a proud new owner of a 2005 3.0R Spec-B wagon. I upgraded from a very sad looking 99 RX wagon, which just kept suffering one thing after another. On the plus side, the motor and gearbox are great in that now
Anyway, I had been hunting for a 3.0R B for quite a while and kept holding out for the right one at the right price. I test drove a black one that was for sale in Penrith about a month ago and it was quite thrashed and from there I'd pretty much given up hope, then Santa delivered this one to the car yard next to my work. I test drove it and instantly fell in love. Amazing condition, great price, good kms for age and use and a reputable dealer. The only down side was Santa forgot to pay for it for me.
So my plans are to supercharge with intercooler and associated exhaust upgrades, upgrade sway bars, strut braces and upgrade the brakes. That'll see me very happy. This car for me will be the perfect blend of family practicality and spirited driving fun. I'm also getting my motorbike license this year finally! So upgrades will happen slowly (and will have to pass the desk of the Minister for War and Finance first
My previous cars apart from the 99 RX have been a '96 Mistu Galant VR4 V6 twin turbo. I imported one of the first ones into the country a while back and I loved that car to bits. The problem was it was just too damn expensive to fix those bits, even though it wasn't often. My advice to anyone importing - If you're the first, you need really deep pockets. It ended up with a bunch of upgrades, too many to mention. But the interesting thing is how similar the 3.0R-B feels and drives to the VR4. Almost identical. That is a good thing!
Before that was a 93 TR Magna which, practically overnight, I converted from SOHC 12v V6 to DOHC 24v V6 (n/a from a 3000GT/GTO). It was a bolt-in job, gearbox and all. That thing hammered for what it was. It was quite possibly the most fun thrashy car I'd ever been in. It'd rev to 7500 no problems and sit there all day. 75km/h in 1st, 120km/h in 2nd, 180ish in 3rd and god-knows-what-else. On a track I took it off the dial well past 220 and it was only at about 5800-6000rpm in 5th. So much fun! ....but it caught fire.
So... I'm looking forward to my stay! I live down the South Coast near Jervis Bay, so if there's any meets happening down this way or any Southern Highlands cruises, I'd be more than happy to come along.
Cheers all!
-Paul
