Introduce yourself

New 3.0R Spec B owner

Postby ScoobyPaul » Fri Jan 02, 2015 6:24 am

G'day everyone. This forum is ooooooozing with excellent info and tech tips! Thanks for making it so great.

My name's Paul and I am a proud new owner of a 2005 3.0R Spec-B wagon. I upgraded from a very sad looking 99 RX wagon, which just kept suffering one thing after another. On the plus side, the motor and gearbox are great in that now ;) It'll make a good donor car now.

Anyway, I had been hunting for a 3.0R B for quite a while and kept holding out for the right one at the right price. I test drove a black one that was for sale in Penrith about a month ago and it was quite thrashed and from there I'd pretty much given up hope, then Santa delivered this one to the car yard next to my work. I test drove it and instantly fell in love. Amazing condition, great price, good kms for age and use and a reputable dealer. The only down side was Santa forgot to pay for it for me.

So my plans are to supercharge with intercooler and associated exhaust upgrades, upgrade sway bars, strut braces and upgrade the brakes. That'll see me very happy. This car for me will be the perfect blend of family practicality and spirited driving fun. I'm also getting my motorbike license this year finally! So upgrades will happen slowly (and will have to pass the desk of the Minister for War and Finance first  )

My previous cars apart from the 99 RX have been a '96 Mistu Galant VR4 V6 twin turbo. I imported one of the first ones into the country a while back and I loved that car to bits. The problem was it was just too damn expensive to fix those bits, even though it wasn't often. My advice to anyone importing - If you're the first, you need really deep pockets. It ended up with a bunch of upgrades, too many to mention. But the interesting thing is how similar the 3.0R-B feels and drives to the VR4. Almost identical. That is a good thing!

Before that was a 93 TR Magna which, practically overnight, I converted from SOHC 12v V6 to DOHC 24v V6 (n/a from a 3000GT/GTO). It was a bolt-in job, gearbox and all. That thing hammered for what it was. It was quite possibly the most fun thrashy car I'd ever been in. It'd rev to 7500 no problems and sit there all day. 75km/h in 1st, 120km/h in 2nd, 180ish in 3rd and god-knows-what-else. On a track I took it off the dial well past 220 and it was only at about 5800-6000rpm in 5th. So much fun! ....but it caught fire.

So... I'm looking forward to my stay! I live down the South Coast near Jervis Bay, so if there's any meets happening down this way or any Southern Highlands cruises, I'd be more than happy to come along.

Cheers all!
-Paul

Yes I did indeed. After the disappointing experience in Penrith, I knew this one was a good buy.

Thanks mate! Kiama's a beautiful spot. We love visiting there too.

Oh sweet! I work in the Stockland Mall (used to be called Nowra Fair so I'm told?). We can exchange ideas next time you're around :)

I can't find any pics of the old magna unfortunately, but I forgot I had this video on an old youtube login:

And here's the VR4:

And, of course, the point of joining this forum in the first place: :D

It looks just like mine.

I remember seeing it on Carsales and tracked it down to Solomon's through the cues in the photos and the Nowra Smash Repairs ute in the background of the photo.
I remember it as it looks just like mine.
Do you work at Don Sims?

One issue I have found is that some people try to chop you, believing it is a standard Liberty Wagon.

Enjoy it, and get a tune from Kido as soon as you can.
Leave it stock on the outside, and keep it a sleeper.

I live on the South Coast of NSW, Sussex Inlet, about 45mins South of Nowra. I was looking for a Spec B for months, and travelled all the way up to North Sydney to look at a promising one, only to be disappointed.

Finally found a decent one, albeit from Tamworth. Ended up getting it freighted down without looking at it. Turns out it was excellent. So happy with it. Its exactly like yours, a Silver Wagon :)

I've only seen a couple of Spec-B's around town, nothing regular. Look out for my Angel Eyes and Gunmetal Grey Wheels/Red Calipers. I travel to and from work, Bomaderry and back, 4 days a week at the moment.

Going to need to find out when one of these Kiama meets are on :)

Sorry it took so long to reply mate. I've been away.

I actually don't know what Don Sims is  I work in the Stockland Mall. I actually bought this car in my lunch break haha

I'll definitely be leaving it stock on the outside. Unless you're flushed with cash, body kits never look or fit right.

Excuse my ignorance, but who/where is Kido? Is that a workshop or a person on here?

Yours looks ace! I love the angel eye conversion. Nice work. If I see you on the road I'll be sure to flash the lights and wave :D And definitely will keep an eye out for a Kiama meet

I see that you have found Kido-Tune and left a post.
Seems that you do not need to be told who he is now?
Cheers!
