Having a ceramic coating applied with a plasma spray bonds (effectively like welding) the ceramic to the metal. It can be applied both internally and externally to the pipework (I am asking how they deal with catalytic converters).
VHT is paint designed to be applied in high temperature situations, but it isn't necessarily useful for preventing transfer of heat from one component to another. Spraying with a can of paint will also have a very different quality (both in quality of coat and quality of bond) to the result achieved with a plasma spray solution, and won't be internal and external.
It's probably not a bad option for the cost though.
