Trying to install Hi/Lo HID's - how should they wire in?

Postby LBR37Y » Wed Jan 15, 2014 10:45 am

Hi guys,

I have brought myself a Bi-Xenon phillips HID kit for my 2010 MN Triton, and i pretty much have it all worked out except for a few bits…

I can manage to work out the wiring from the globes to ballast and ballast to HID harness but from HID harness to the factory Hi/Lo switch/plug in i struggle with… i cannot find where/understand where the 3 pronged on the HID harness goes to?? and can the earths go to any of the factory earths being used or will i need to make another one??

Also will i need to change any fuses or relays?? if so what size and is it just the fuses and relays in the box under the bonnet…

Cheers and thanks for the assistance

Have you taken the time to have a look behind the headlight in your triton?

H4 globes are 3 pronged - low, hi and -ve. This will now basically trigger your hid's to turn on and flick hi/lo

The red wire with the fuse in line needs to go to your battery

And the black wire(s) just go to any convenient place for the -ve, either straight to the battery, using existing -ve bolts or if you are confident you could create your own.

Here's a clear explanation for what looks like a very similar if not identical kit

Yes I have noticed when you rempve the plug from the factory globes there is a 3 pronged female plug but I dont understand why there is only one 3 pronged male plug on the hid harness??

And your saying that the hid earth just goes to an earth that is already being used?

Yeah the 3 prong from one headlight won't be used. The actual power for the lights now comes from the fuse wire from the battery.

If you can re-use existing -ve bolts that shouldn't cause any issues

so that 3 pronged male plug from the hid harness just gets connected to the female plug that used to connect to the old headlight globes??

Yup exactly. The link I put in the above post shows it all labelled as to where it all connects

You only need to connect one of the 3 prong plugs (obviously as there's only one with your new set up)

The other side will just sit there doing nothing
