PoidaGT has 200kw atw tuned by MSR in his auto with a vf52.

If it was me, I'd say the blouch 380xt is easily enough for your power goals.

Edit: justin got 230kw atw with the 380xt...although it was with the 6 speed.

For a beginner like myself, whats the difference between the 380 and the 1.5? I certainly have to stick with 98. Are these turbos easy to come by second hand or more likely to have to buy new?

Appreciate your advice, seems it will save me in the long run.

Well that's definitely a bit too much boost for a stock engine lol

Dave, I personally don't know a whole lot about the technical side of the two turbos. They both have billet wheels which is good and dom1.5 has a ball bearing cartridge where as the 380 doesn't. The 380 is rated to 380hp and the dom1.5 is 480hp. I can only assume that because dom1.5 is so much bigger that it would have considerably more lag.

Have a read of Rome_brz's build thread. I think you'll find it quite relevant.

dom1.5 and run lower boost. Simple.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

At 16 psi it is still respectable indeed

If you have decided on a VF52, you will be able to use any top mount, bov and exhaust that was designed for the VF46 as the turbos are identical.

Having said that..with a VF52, your car will just feel like a wrx. Your power down low will have almost no gains, and you'll have a 10-15kw increase at 6000-6500rpm. You get what you pay for.

Have a troll through rexnet. plenty of wrx boys get rid of their VF52s to upgrade to something bigger. From memory, other members were able to source them for about $1000 brand new.

PS. That long article UniqueRS wrote contains 0 truth. Plenty of us are making well over 230kw with an unopened engine. Longevity is all in the tune...

Actually plenty of truth in the post.
what makes me laugh about this is the dyno that UniqueRS is referring to is a heart breaker. A VF52 would be very lucky to hit 180awkw on an auto Lib on this one.
No 200awkw on that dyno with a VF52 on 98.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the MRT XA/XB/XC packages? The (hub)dyno graphs seem too good to be true. Unfortunately I'm too inept to do my own work.

I figured that would be the reaction. Some reasoned input would be nice though! Whats wrong with ECUTEK etc?

In all seriousness OP, get a turbo back exhaust, a tune and then drive the thing. 200Kw is a number andthe VF46 is so punchy in stock form that your unlikely to even notice the 20Kw difference in PEAK power. Go for a drive with a few local members and get a feel for their cars before you part with your hard earned ;)

As a tuning tool it is great, BUT it can be set to lock your ECU so only ECUTEK can be used to tune your car.
This can lock you in to a few tuners only.....which may or may not be a problem.

Some people can unlock them though....

Excellent advice.

Start with a tbe and a retune (check out some kido tuned cars). Fuel pump and turbo inlet, and bov next. You should be hitting 170atw. You'll then know if you want more or not - and you've only spent 2k and you've paved the way for a turbo upgrade. A good turbo won't work well without those mods, but the mods will work without the turbo, until you decide.

I'd recommend a blouch for ease of fitting....

First thing to do - check out a stock tune from kido tuning, I'm not tuned by matt, but he has helped alot and I certainly don't support people I don't believe in. This guy has probably the best stock auto tune, without a dyno and a massive dyno bill. Speaking from experience.

All the best

For those familiar with the Butler exhausts here in Perth, other than actual construction quality and durability, is there a significant difference between Butler and say Xforce? Are there questions of performance or fitment? Im questioning if $2200 on an exhaust is actually worth it versus the other mods I could do with the extra money.

Dave,
I am just recently bought a exhaust system thats getting fitted this week on my 07 gt spec b sedan in Perth. Just some info on my exhaust:
Invidia catted dump pipe from prospeed racing: $850
Hitech Catback system from over east. QUAD TIPS with a centre resonator to try and keep things a bit quite. ($1600 delivered to perth)

Hitech have the full TBE for $1900. If your fan of the quad tip mufflers then i reckon they are pretty decent.
In the exhaust section of the forum u can have a listen to the sound of the hitechs.

My car is also getting alot of other work done and getting tuned at ASG next week:
Cobb intake, silicone turbo inlet, avo intercooler, turbosmart bov, grimm speed EBCS and fuel pump on the performance side of things, can let you know how i go in terms of power.
ive got a 6 speed.
