Sedan Boot Lid Hand Grip

Not sure about anyone else, but for the last 8 plus years I have put up with having to use my hand on the number plate area or on top of the boot lid spoiler to close the boot. In my wife's Impreza Hatch, there is a convenient hand grip integrated into the interior moulded cover. Why was that not done on the Libertty Sedans?

Anyway, got myself a tacky piece of nylon strap that was laying around the garage, cut out two holes, one at each end and you can see the shitty, but effective result:







So, for comparison, the Impreza integrated hand grip below:



It is nicely integrated into the rear hatch and no reason why they could not have done something similar for the Liberty Sedan.

Looking for any other solutions that other members have used. And lots of pics and part numbers as my attempt is just a temporary fix.

YES! You have no idea how much it annoys me, I shut the boot by pulling on the latch itself so I don't have to touch my paintwork

Not worried about it getting caught in the latch?

I've been thinking of doing something like the impreza picture you put up. Mum's Mazda 6 has something similar but it's on the inside of the boot (sort of behind the number plate) which I think could be done by buying the handle and cutting a square out, then lining it up so when you pull on it it pulls the boot down by the metal behind the trim.

Agree, it annoys me too having fingerprints and smears in the dust on the paintwork.

The slack is just enough to catch on the nets so that it is swung behind the latch. I was not going to leave that much slack, as it looks very tardy and cheap, but the alternative is to tighten it a bit to bring it up above the latch which then makes gripping it a little more difficult. Meh!

I do like the idea of an integrated grip and will start looking for some candidate parts before I start cutting and mounting.
