Dan you're missing my point - I know it can be engineered but the scrutineering these days is too hard
My gemi was engineered with a turbo g180, as was my celica
These had completely different engines with bigger setups in there
The issue is the new rules are alot more onerous and engineers are becoming stringent. Without going into too much detail I know for a fact there are alot of things on my car an engineer won't like. He might like the shiny new crossmember I've fabbed up but won't like my fmic.
In an over-engineered, 5 star ancap safety rating vehicle (which the liberty is), I can't see too many engineers wanting to sign away saying "mick's backyard work" holds more weight than Subaru when it comes to safety with certain things (and again I'm not talking about the crossmember here but other things which I won't mention)
I'm sure you can see this is a little different to an old shitter which you've probably improved by putting better structural parts and brakes etc on there.
