How much power (at the fly) do they reckon the 5 speed is good for?

he didnt quote a figure.. but said that with the late model 5EAT "you wont make enough power to brake it, unless you go stupid"

he said that as long as it's regularly serviced with good fluid it will be ok..

he mentioned there is a gen 1 around somewhere that was making around 600hp at the wheels, running a retrofitted late model 5EAT.. apparently it held the power.. i was a bit skeptical, but both the guys were saying they are bullshit strong..

It's odd that they have told you that. In the states there are quite a few late model 5EAT owners who have blown their transmissions with some as low as 300hp all the way through to some with over 450hp atw...

yeah, TBH i was a bit sceptical... especially about the 600hp claims.. i dont think that is really possible unless it's got modified internals..

i guess it's like any other mechanical part though.. there will be a range of tolerances and no 2 will behave exactly the same... would also come down to how it gets driven, what oils it's serviced with, how often..

when my old supra was still auto (before i fucked the homobox off and fitted a manual) i made a point of flushing the tranny completely (torque converter included) before going for more power.. it was ahead of schedule, but i didnt want the 30k old fluid suddenly having to deal with 200 more HP.. its amazing how quickly an auto gearbox can die when run with bad fluid...

Mmm. Closeups.

On the transmission side of things... I'm still doing reading to try to figure out if going down the supercharged route is going to require the strengthening that Mark went through.

so.. just got a call from S-technic...

all is well with my car, apart from the previous owner not changing the brake fluid at the 100k service.. and 1 very minor oil leak from the oil cooler.. its only a very tiny leak so it's not worth doing before the 125k where they have to dump the coolant anyway.. may as well do it then..

Few clips n shit replaced, cabin filter changed.. (thought may as well while im at it)

with extra stuff done, they still came in over $400 under what Subaru wanted to charge.. lol..

Billies arrived today..

Image

The best wrapped anything EVER.. i've seen vital organs be transported with less protection..

definitely not a bad thing though.. i should be chucking them in some point this week... was gonna wait to get S-techs but i wanna start going to a few track events so these will have to do for now with stock springs..

Ill be really interested to see how they sit.. from what i've heard on here they actually sit a little higher than the stock struts... however comparing mine side by side with a mates stock GTB, his definitely sits lower..

same goes for the 3.0r Spec B I test drove, it's still up the road from work and it definitely sits lower than mine..

will be interesting to see..

Chucked the billies in this arvo... forgot how much better they are over the kyb's...

I measured up the heights before and after... the billies definitely sit marginally lower.. about 12mm all round..

Will definitely get the s-tech's in the near future...

Also took the opportunity to give myself a little more camber at the front...

Car handles heaps better now.. took it back through the karawara special stage.. car sits heaps flatter and turns in a lot better..

Can't wait for a track day..

Picked up a little cosmetic mod last night... Huge thanks to Anna (Grrrl) and her husband... awesome car collection.. so jealous.. awesome people to deal with.. got this for the price of a replica one..

Had a quick trial fit last night but too dark to get a decent pic..

More on its way soon.. next load of planned mods in near future:

S-techs
Fit anti lift, whiteline front control arm bushes and RCA kit (already bought)
Ultrex front mesh grill
Kido tune...

In the meantime finish my exhaust front section (haven't had time to weld shit recently) and buy x-force Y pipe..

Was gonna mess around with a new top mount, etc... but decided I don't really want more power out of this thing.. I don't wanna risk hurting gearboxes etc... plus, the money is better spent on getting new gear for the race car.. (planning 600rwhp this time round)

Got a spare couple of hours from renovatin this morning so fitted the lip..

Surprised how easy it actually was.. and I HATE body work... almost as much as I hate interior work..

Took just under 2 hours.. would have taken an hour had I actually had a drill.. forgot I loaned it to a mate..

So instead I used a combination of a knife, large bore self tapper and screwdriver to make the required holes..

Anyway, piece of piss with the original fitting kit..

Yes I know the car needs a wash..
