Replacing rear number plate light globes - Gen 4 sedan

Postby d-chang » Sat Jul 28, 2012 5:49 pm

Hey guys, was wondering if there was a walkthrough already in the forums, or if you knew the easiest way to replace the number plate lights on a sedan?

Is it just to remove the black fabric trimmings? Or is it prying at the plastic with a flat head screwdriver?

Thanks guys
Below car has been gone for quite some time now... blew bottom end bearing and dealership screwed me! Now driving 2008 WRX with ~65k kms on the clock. Only has cat back exhaust and tune by KiDo at the moment! More to come... but slowly!

Purchased recently (12/11/2013), already with: Stage 2 Pedders lowered springs, rear Whiteline sway bar, Advan Racing TCII 18x8 wheels, k&N pod filter, custom 3" exhaust system from turbo back with Magnaflow mufflers. ECUTEK tune of some sort (hopefully soon to be fixed)..... now FIXED!! Now KiDo Tuned!
Added: HID kit, EZ lip equivalents to the front and sides, and various LED treatments, oem boot spoiler, [LGT WRC] plates, GFB Respons BOV for extra Pssscchhh! --> Gone... I couldn't afford it's heart transplant... but keep a look out, as it will come back on sale soon!

Have to remove the carpet trim on the boot lid, then you will see the holes where you have to fiddle around to replace the globes.

Remove the trim, it's like 14 clips and the 2 rubber stops. Then the globe holders screw in a bit (like 1/4 turn) they are small wedge globes.
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

Wouldn't you do it before dark, not after? Hehe.

I use curved needle nose pliers to get those clips out, makes it a lot easier.

I use a clip tool, or bend the tip of a flat blade screw driver.

It was surprisingly easy to get in there... A little bit skeptic at first, I just used my hands and a bit of brute strength... luckily for me the clips didn't break and the trim didn't tear! WIN!! :D Whole job just took me about 5 minutes... Now time to shop for some LED lighting! :D Probably go to Jaycar.
