Wow, 10.2L/100km along Parramatta Rd is pretty impressive, irrespective of whether the traffic was light. I used to drive that road every day for 4 years when I went to uni so I know what a bitch it can be! Just out of interest, how would you describe your driving style? Shifting around 3k revs and engine braking where possible?

Other fuel saving methods - that I sometimes use

Shift, 1st, 2nd, 3rd (some revs) then 6th, works well and saves plenty fuel. You can skip other gears too and come up with a less gear shifts plan to suit you. After an XRT tune I find if no one around a start from 3rd gear is easy too with very minimal clutch slip, again saves fuel

Never go over 3000 and if you have a Sat Nav dash then keep an eye on fuel use indicator, keep it low

I usually go 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 but this depends of course on my average cruising speed and whether there is a reasonable flow of traffic. On slowing down to a stop, it's usually a gradual 6, 5, 3, until I'm under 20km/h then pop into N.

I read recently in another forum, Whirpool I think, that replacing the standard rear mufflers with something better- freer flowing - was good for 1 less l/100km. Can anyone verify that

probably...although its offset by a heavier right foot because swapping out mufflers sounds better and im a sucker for WOT noise

At cruise speeds I dont believe that mod will do any thing, the engine is pumping just very small volumes of air at cruise, it could get it all out through just one of the pipes and still run along fine

Tim, i can agree. Often i use the 3th gear after the first one, much smoother for cruising, and from the 3th in the 5th gear.
For cruising the 6MT is to short, you have to have revs to shift smooth 1-2-3.
How much this shifting will influence the fuel consumption - no idea . But i don´t believe that only new muffler can have a great influence to it.

Just got my auto 3.0R MY05 about 3 weeks ago and its been pretty intense on the fuel. checked my average, turned out to be 18.8L/100k! Im currently using 98 octane and doing all of my driving around suburbs. Id say my driving style is fairly light, with the odd 'boot' here and there. any idea why id be getting these figures? tips? (use 95 octane?). I am coming from driving a 1.8L manual corolla so maybe that might be a factor!

Im a new owner of a Auto 3.0R MY06 and my average is around 10-12l/100k and as its a new car i obviously had to 'blow out the cobwebs' so not the lightest of foot...somthing doesnt sound right there if your getting 18.8L/100k

Definitely 98. Have you checked your air filter? If it's filthy and clogged that will result in poor fuel economy. Also run some injector cleaner

yeah i think ill be sticking to 98, reset the trip computer and drove around alittle, dropped down to about 15.6L/100k. ill give it alittle longer...whats acceptable for normal suburb driving?

Bumper to bumper traffic and revving to 4000+ I'm looking at low to mid 12s. Some freeway driving non-peak hour (not too many red lights) it's more like high 10s. I'd have to tow my boat full of concrete and never get out of 3rd gear to get 15s. I'd get a checkup/tune for sure.
