I do very much like the front bumper without that ugly piece of plastic though :).

I guess Taylor each to their own. I reckon though if you cut it out you will need to spend even more money than the wrap, as it would need to be sprayed in that area and filled or you'll have a notched out bit where it sits presently.

I guess I don't want to lose any strength in that area either.

The way that Phat will cut mine when he does my FMIC is cut the bar so that it is in line with where the end of that vertical pillar is, therefore there is nothing remaining that needs repainting, and the intercooler core will sit flush with the edge. I don't see how the front bar losing that small bit of support would make any noticeable difference with anything, check out some of the JDM bumpers that have a massive opening alot wider than ours that has no vertical support at all!

Your option is a really good idea for someone who isn't going the FMIC route. At night you won't even be able to tell it's there at all, it wouldn't be noticeable in daylight either until someone was close enough to see it!

Great for a DIY mod that costed $0!!

Thanks Rome.

Yeah a quick easy mod and cost be $0 thanks to the guys giving me the piece and writing it off as a sample. I did offer to pay as the ebay stuff is about $6 a sheet delivered.

I'd also check if the foam reinforcement is removed for the FMIC install. I reckon some of that might be coming out as well.

Since I moved the number plate up that bit stuck out even more so this was a quick easy fix whilst considering my options. I've seen a few wrapped cars and I like the look. So I'm now thinking about wrapping a a few bits without making the car look tacky.

From memory the crash bar goes, but the foam reinforcement stays there afaik.

EDIT: Yeh I was having a look at a few places that wrap cars too, cheaper than a full respray!

"Crash bar goes". Hardly seems important and integral to vehicle safety or crash protection. Get rid of it.

I'd check on the foam as I reckon that goes too which doesn't matter either. It's weight reduction...

Haha I thought so when I first found out the crash bar goes but then think about it realistically, the front mount core is in it's place which while it may not offer the same crash protection the crash bar itself provides, if the accident is big enough it's not gonna matter what's in the way there is still going to be massive damage!

And I really don't think the foam goes but I will double check that :) Doesn't really bother me either way to be honest but yes less weight is always a good thing!

Update time:

Well my turbo install got bumped as the dyno PLM sensor was having issues. A new one was ordered but given my need for the car over Easter I couldn't afford to have the car in the shop.

Will book in for the dyno 18-19 April.

Anyway I'd been contemplating a change of colour for my rims to charcoal for something different and a bit of a cosmetic change. An opportunity came up to get some already finished rims in the colour I liked so I've done a bit switch and now have charcoal TBSTI rims win charcoal with new Kumho KU36 tyres in 225 40 R18.

Here are some pics

Definetely looking better with the colour change on the rims Bruce, looks awesome. The new thick meaty tread from the ku36 looks great also. Ive ran those tyres previously before, in the dry they are exceptional...just dont boot it in the wet too hard is all i can remember unless you are good at counter steering. They wear a bit quicker but the grip offered for the price compared to its other competitors is quite good.

Well done, good to see you progressing away from a stock sti even if just slightly... Ill definetely have to see it again the flesh sometime soon.

Thanks guys.

Just trying a few ideas out cosmetically as my engine mods will soon be ending.

Now waiting for the wrap guy to return from holidays and get to work on my car.

I reckon it looks great with just the wrap and saves any potential problems that may/may not arise from cutting it out.

Yeah I wrapped that centre bit myself but am looking at wrapping a couple of other exterior bits on the car to see what it looks like. Will be getting them done professionally though.

Whilst I love the silver as it's not as hard to keep looking clean, it's also a bit harder to get it looking as beautiful as a black car. Will see what I can come up with to make it look more "angry"

If it starts looking too ricey someone smack me on the head..

I've been known to get carried away.

I've been contemplating/fantasizing enhancing the lines of my wagon with a matte white bonnet/roof combo...
Inspired by the lines of those coach built beauties a la Figoni et Falaschi (Delahaye) and varous Bugatti......
I say go for it!!! (your wrap idea)
