Question on Fuel

I've got a stock MY06 TBSTI Wagon, I know the recommendation is to run the engine on 98RON however is there any issues running it on 91RON?

I've been running on 95RON for a few weeks with no issue at all however a lot of the driving that i do is city based and its so cost inefficient to run 98/95 for city use.

Your car is tuned for 98 ron.

Your economy is going to be far worse on 91, and it's going to run like absolute shit.

Did you not happen to read the 98RON only description inside your fuel door?

Yup i have read the label.

The reason i ask this is because when I used to drive Renaultsport Meganes back in the UK we found that the performance and fuel economy was very minimal between 98 and 95 RON back in the UK. Those were on remapped 2.0l Turbo engines putting out about 185KW (250 BHP)

It costs less to fill up with a tank 98 over 91 than to buy a $4 coffee everyday.

Personally I dont get why people complain over the cost of premium fuel or fuel consumption and yet they choose to by a turbo vehicle.

If you dont want to spend an extra 20c a litre on premium fuel then sell your tbsti and buy a kia

It's not simple yes or no answer.

Yes it will run on 91, however give it a go and it will drive like crapola and not recommended and you might find yourself paying for it down the track.

"Yes" you can use 91 or 95 RON but you risk damage to the engine as most likely the car will ping/detonate when revving it out as the engine has been tuned to run on 98RON.

If you want to continue to run 91RON then get it retuned on 91RON fuel or risk damage to your engine.
