Why would you have any problems?

Any reason why you want to go to that size tyre?

235/50/18 will be 19.9mm larger in overall diameter so will indeed be deemed defective.

235/50/18 is huge. Forrester type profile.
You would go 235/35 or more commonly 235/40.
A 235/40 gave me near identical rolling diameter to a 225/45.
