i had spent the weekend 65kms south of coffs harbour, at a religeous, non alcoholic, vegitarian wedding,
after this, i decided to make the journey back up here to brissy, packed the car up, said my goodbyes.. specially to the photographer, i hugged her extra long.. he he.. and i made my way out of the complex, destined for home...
no more than 500 mtrs down the road, i come to the first of an adventurous set of twists and bends leading me back to the highway, to which of course i approached with caution, and decended through the gears.
to my astonishment, i look around the apex of the somewhat hindered corner, and i see a set of headlights, heading at me in a rather perculiar angle. after that couple of seconds, i realised this particular car, was coming at me sideways around the corner, my right headlight, and his drivers side door, destined to meet.
in my evasive and now seemingly lack of skilled choices, i hit the anchors, and made somewhat of an attempt to swerve around this drifing commodore, and headed for the lhs of the road, to where i found the wet grass..
still on the brakes, and feeling the pulsation of not only my pucker valve but the abs, the car started to slide itself, very narrowly missing the rear quater of the local hoon and sending me into a rather large ditch. i hit the ditch/drain at approx 50 kms p/h and went in with my front left hand side seeming to bury itself deep within the grass, clay and rock that surround the banks.
The car of course come to a sudden halt and thrashed me round like a mad man, and flicking the back of the car airborne, and slowly rolled over onto its side with the momentum, enough to push the mirror, thankfully the right way, and pushed it back into the window, taking a sample of grass with it. but it didnt really occur to me had happend, till i felt the thud of the impact in my rh rear wheel, and my head smashing into the pillar, that i realised the back end had clearly gotten some hang time, and the rear tire had just hit back down on the road.
sitting with my feet still on the clutch/brake, and the steering wheel straining at the intense grip i had on it, i look over my should to see the commodore, continuing on his/her merry way. not stopping at all to see what had happend.
I sat there motionless for what felt like an hour, thinking to myself, ok im 5 minutes into a 6/7 hour drive... hmm, how am i going to explain this one.
thinking that i had embedded my cars nose first into a bank, i didnt think taking my foot off the brake would do anything. however when i did, it rolled forward at least a foot. i then eased it into first, and somehow managed to drive out of the ditch..
i limped the car to the nearest servo, assessing any noises or anything in the steering in the 10 minute drive it was, still dumbfounded as to how i just drove out of what i thought i would have to be towed from, and thinking that that corner of my car was going to look rather interesting. i pulled up and seen that the only obvious damage, was my wheel copped a bit of a pounding. there is grass stuck in between the rim and the rubber.. so to safe, i changed it, and sat for a bit to let my heart rate slow a lil.
i headed back on my merry way, driving as sedatly as i think i ever have, and made it home thankfully, without further issues.
i noticed this morning, on my "daylight" assesment, that my already scratched front lhs, is now more so. ive picked up a few other cosmetic blemishes, but it was when i discoverd that i have now put a flat spot in another rim, that the profanities came flowing.. the rhs rear when it landed back on the ground has cause it to have a flat spot, and im sure it will need replacing.. a job for this week..
all in all, i come out of it better than i thought i would.. alive really haha.. the car is suprisngly ok, aside from the front wheel, which ill put pics up of in the morning, and mud and clay on the side from where it just laid itself down, it seems ok. im still going to give it an even more intense look over when i get a chance to, and look under it and make sure its all good under there..
my apologies for the lenth of my sook, but i guess if you have read this far, ive kept your attention for a least a couple of minutes.
cheers
