Easier just to look on Sunday ;)
I haven't run any wires though the dash. I have a short extension along the bottom of the dash (above my legs), then the supplied OBD cable from there up to the unit mounted on the windscreen above the radio/info display, same as where I'd put a GPS.

I downloaded the zip. is it only less than 4 Mb?

That's right. The latest version of ECUDatascan software is around 3.8mb.

I loaded the latest last Friday, on the way home it hung - displayed data did not change (107kph). Soft shutdown did not clear it, had to power it right down and reboot. so far so good.
Over the weekend I tried to configure some analogue gauges - got boost, water temp up - Bang, reboot.
Analogue boost is not configured correctly - starts at zero, will not show vacuum.

The device reboots on its own or you need to reboot it? Has it saved any error files to the SD card?

Best to discuss this on the ECUDatascan forums so we can manage your issues in the one place.

Downloaded and installed no prbs.

Looks good too, I like the analogue option - however I notice one thing missing with analogue gauges compared to digital. There is no colour change option?? I find the red needles VERY hard to read in bright sunlight (my ECUdatascan sits on the a pillar low to the windscreen.)

Yellow would be better

Any chance of an option being installed?

Cheers

Yeah in the next version I'm trying to add an option to change the colour of the text and needle in the gauge.

I've been reading about the Datascan the past few days and kinda understand what it does.

What i'd like to know is what it doesn't do from a logging point of view?

My car has a retuned std ecu and what i'd like to do is to log what the car does so that any issues with the tune can be identified and/or any improvements made. Will i be able to do that with the Datascan?

I'm very new to data logging and i only have very basic knowledge of computers :)

Thanks
Mo :)

The software in the datascan was built in such a way where any gauges you currently have on screen (regardless of what type of gauge it is, or even what type of ECU you're connecting to), the logging is exactly the same.

So if you're wanting to log what's going on with the car for tuning purposes I'm guessing you'd want to measure things like rpm, engine load, fuel injector pulse width, and ignition timing. All of these are able to be logged on the ECUDatascan. On top of this the ECUDatascan will also log the GPS co-ordinates with every sample that it takes so you'd be able to pinpoint on google earth where that log was taken.

If there are any tuners who know than me let us know what other things would be useful to log for tuning purposes!

Thanks,
Daren

Edit: The logs are stored on the SD card in CSV format, so you'll be able to open it in Excel/OpenOffice and print/chart/sort, etc. the data fairly easily.

Cool, thanks for the info Daren.

How many hours worth of driving logs will the SD card hold? Can i use a bigger SD card if i need to?

And, would i order this with the OBD II cable to connect to my 2007 liberty GT?

How does this compare to the Trust Infometer ?

The ECUDatascan works with SD cards up to 2GB in size. With a card that big you'd get months (if not weeks and weeks) of constant logging data saved before you ran out of space.

For the 2007 GT you need the OBD-II cable.

Mo, i have had both units, the greddy unit is limited you can only get a few parameters, you can only log amount 15 minute, the only advantage was the size of the unit and funky graphics.

the ECU datacanner is far better, you can log about 65 different parameters and log for as long as the memory is there, on the plus side you can even graph your data in excel and you also ahve the f ault clearing feature, which the greddy did not have.

GPS speed issues

Postby GTB Liberty » Mon Feb 14, 2011 5:33 pm

Having just gotten a new unit from Daren - is anyone having issues with GPS speed displaying. Mine seems to display speed changes very poorly (read slow changes) and then when I get to a complete stop it stays at 1 Km/h and then refuses to change it displayed figure from that 1 Km/h.

Has anyone else had these issues?

EDIT - Having gone out for another play - this unit seems to have many many issues. Will be contacting Daren directly about them.
