Out of curiosity Clarence what are the Eclipse screens worth and what about the maps are they already install in the unit ?

G'Day Guys,

I can help with the Elcipse side of things, the boss has just got me to price one up to go into a Forrester.

(Yep, Government job)

The unit is about $1800 to $2100 to buy (I'm in Sydney)

The labour is a killer though if you are paying someone to do it, with the Liberty and all the various speakers (not being changed over but reworking them with crossovers and wiring back to the amp etc), steering wheel integration, I-Pod control, steering wheel controls, fascia and reversing camera I'd say that about $4000 - $4500 would be a fair price.

Tangcla, how do you find viewing the GPS at the lower (factory) location? It is a major sticking point for me but I think I'm making too big a deal of it.

I'm personally considering removing the cubby, mounting a unit that fits a 7" double DIN space but DOESN'T have a flipping screen, getting one of those CE-NET thingos that takes RCA input and feeding the signal from the unit into the factory MAC unit and letting it do all the sound handling...it's not exactly a simple way to do it as I am running 2 systems but it will be easier to dismount at sale time and I get a GPS / MP3 player at a higher height. Only thing I'm not sure about is whether I have enough mounting depth in there, knowing my luck, probably not!

Either way, the pictures looks sweet
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!

I can get you an Eclipse AVN726EA for $1250 brand new. Maps and nav software (iGo Eclipse edition) are pre-loaded, 2008.Q3 maps.

Installation is easy if you are wiring in an aftermarket amp - you only need three wires from the factory loom (+12V constant, +12V accessory and illumination); ground it (and you may as well ground the handbrake lead ;)); microphone; GPS antenna; and the rest is to the amp - remote, RCAs x2/4/6 and that's everything you need.

The frustrating part is splicing into the Mcintosh amp wiring to the speaker. But that is made easier if you don't use the fancy Stinger HPM twisted pair speaker wires :angry2: take it from me, don't do it.

Install took me from 10am to 3pm on a Saturday afternoon, with some friends chatting and doing the install at a leisurely pace..

I still prefer the sound of the Mcintosh... so you might take it with a grain of salt :P I'm not sure which is to blame, I think more the headunit. Amp seems quite good though so far.

Definitely not as nice as being higher up. The advantage of having it lower is that it's easier to control, fingers are closer to the headunit :P
Sadly they don't make a double DIN cubby fascia, short of getting one custom made.
