06 3RB Sat-Nav help

Postby Woodduck » Sun Oct 04, 2009 1:49 am

Some of you may have read my other thread, but basically my engine light came on on my car about 4 hours out of melbourne. A mechanic in the town i was in thought he could clear the fault by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery...turns out its not that simple. So anyway, after he did that my Sat Nav stopped working. The info part works fine (the fuel cons. etc) but when i try to do anything to do with the maps it comes up with an error saying something like "Error- Please insert genuine disc" (or something of that effect). When i ejected my maps disc (for the first time) I discovered the guy i bought it off gave me a burnt copy of the maps, yet supplied me with a genuine subaru where is maps DVD cover. The guys at docklands said that the problem is that its a burnt disc and "its impossible..it couldnt have ever worked in the first place". Its been running fine for the last 8 months untill the battery was disconnected, and now its come up with this error. Do i need to purchase a new copy of the maps? Or is there other things i can try first? (have tried the reset button too). Thanks

Alot of us use burnt discs of genuine Subaru maps no problems - most probably the issue here is that the burnt disc doesn't have the boot code files for your specific satnav. That is, your burnt disc is not a copy of a Subaru map disc.

It's the same issue we have when we use the Toyota Denso maps (currently v15 whilst Subaru is still at v14) - while we can't boot off the Toyota map discs, we can still use the map data off the Toyota map discs after we booted from a Subaru map disc. This is probably what has occured here.

Google and you should be able to find a torrent for a Subaru map disc and the latest Toyota map disc. Boot off the Subaru and then replace with the Toyota for the latest map versions.

easier, but are you willing to pay close to $300 for a map disc?

do you know if your disc is the red line version or non-redline version? i know there are some members with the non-redline version 15 here.... sadly, i need the red line version, so still no luck!

off topic: does anyone know when V15 will come out for Subaru? and how often do Subaru bring these out?

Can ANYONE hook me up with the torrent? Or if someone has a current, or even a genuine subaru previous edition that will boot my GPS that they could copy for me so i could at least test my unit to make sure it will fix the problem. Im willing to pay someone $50 for a copy of either V14 or V15 that will should boot my system just so i know if its going to work.

Nothing is set in stone, but probably the "Mildura Motor Inn" in Deakin Ave.
We're taking two weeks to do this drive (with stays in the underground motel at White Cliffs, and the "Zoofari" lodge at Dubbo Zoo. :)

Well when you go through Red Cliffs, and pass the yellow building on the highway called Sunset Cycles, be sure to give me a honk :D (if its a week day that is haha). Hopfully we'll be able to meet at some stage anyway :D
