I actually think the standard clutch with more clamping pressure could solve the problem.

I've been told the STi 6 speed can handle upto 300kw @ the wheels easy. Personally I would go a Exedy organic heavy duty clutch based on my experiences in the past.

Hey Tony, how can this be achieved?

It's not something you'd just do as a fix on what you've got, rather another option in the mix when it comes to a replacement.

We've got a local guy up here who will modify the pivot point when rebuilding the clutch and does it so well that I've previously increased clamping pressure by 1000lbs and it was impossible to pick from a stocker (except it did not slip).

If anyone changes their clutch and wants to donate the old one to science, I'll see what can be done.

ive done 60,000 in my WRX STI have over 200kws atw have done a few track days
and a few launches in its times. still running the oem clutch by the way.

im just wondering if the clutch in the WRX STI is different to the Lib STI

if its different it may be a good alternative.

the last thing you want is some thing that is extremely difficult to drive with considering its a daily driver

i know of a few who have been totally upset with replacement clutches that require a huge left foot
and leg to push down and then end up bunny hopping them off the line every time they try to drive
off..

big clamping pressures i think are the reason for this in combo with organic clutches but i could be wrong.

your right the STI boxes are bullet proof and inconjunction with big KW's & stock clutches at least you wont be
breaking drive shafts.. the clutch is normally the first to start going and giving you the warning signs
its on its way out.

You've been watching me drive haven't you? Seriously though, it does catch me out from time to time if I'm not paying enough attention, usually stalling

The first time I got in the car I thought I'd put my foot on the brake pedal. It's still heavier than the brake. Not sure I want something heavier :?

Unless you are dumping the clutch on launch, you'll likely be fine. If you have any mechanical sympathy you wouldn't be too rough on the thing anyway. Busted drivelines are usually the result of guys with big power driving the car hard IMO

Just keep in mind that you have changed the "fuse" in your driveline and don't abuse your daily driver like a funny car

So just to clarify, people are seeing clutch slipping starting when the standard turbo is hitting 100% utilisation? I'd imagine then, an upgraded turbo would tend to suggest a new clutch as part of the exercise?

So far that's what I see Cpitts. Essentially, the clutch will hold what the OEM snail will push.

In my experience, the balance between leg pressure, drive ability and high clamp organic clutches is a very fine balance. I've had three previously and only one did I ever really like rather than had to accept. That was the last one so perhaps the balance is getting better and better?

I just got my '05 LGT 5MT back from 150k service and they mentioned noticed extra travel on the clutch. Quoted for a new clutch + DMF fitted for $3300.

My guess is all the 5MT's are DMF's :(

I've never experienced slippage though, Tech's there might just be getting picky, which I guess is better than being lazy.

Tech's are trained to upsell and increase the retail orders raised  You might not even need it.
