Has anybody successfully lowered a '07 GT?

Postby OzSTi » Sun Jun 03, 2007 6:07 pm

I've tried some Whitelines which as PHAT GT pointed out have not been developed for the '07.

Cat had some troubles at first but she seems to be sorted now. What did you use in the end?

I'm on the verge of fitting STi pinks but the more I see pics of GT tuned by STis, the more I realise that these don't seem to lower the car as well. Certainly not like the '06 version. The pinks probably give the best roadholding but wont come down the 15mm I'd like.

What else is out there that will suit the Bilstien shocks of the specB and bring it down a little, 15mm max, and are good quality.

What's different about the '07 that is making this so difficult?

What about this approach,

Racing Beat makes this modified top mount to lower the front end of RX-7s;

Does anyone make a similar thing for Libertys?

If you want ony 15mm max then i think Sti would be your best bet, the rest of the springs out there lower atleast 25mm or more.

Or you could get coilovers and adjust the height?

Btw, i can't see why there'd be a diff between the 06 and the 07 GT except for the 2.0 5sp vs the 2.5 6sp (in the Spec B) as far as springs go... but if anyone knows, please let us know.

I will be putting on some Tein S.Techs on my 07 when i get it - its the same part number as the ones i had on my 05, so...

Bye,
Mo

Haven't got the 07 yet Mano, I have no idea when it will be ready but was told that it had to be delivered by the end of June (i bought on the " free on road costs - drive away" deal).

I've already started shopping for a few bits for it :D

yup, i had issues with the whitelines

i had to have my front springs reset... not worth the drama IMO...

there doesnt seem to be any other springs about, unless you go the coilovers.

and your right the liberty sti pinks just dont sit low enough....

This is what happened to me with the Whitelines (and I suspect to Cat as well) we used last year's springs which do lower a MY06 but do not lower MY07s.

You may find the same thing with your Teins.

Why have STi chosen not to lower the car further? Am I right that the pinks would be the same as on full blown JDM GT STis?

I'll look for a link to the Jap STi site, there must be one. Anybody know?

I don't get it... the STi springs on the 07, thats the same part as the 04,05,06 right? Can you please check on that for us Cat?

What did they do to reset your front springs ?

STi website - www.subaru-sti.co.jp

I'll double check with the guys at Tein before i buy the springs - thanks for the heads up.

Has whiteline explained why their springs for the 06 will not lower the 07? And when you say "do not lower MY07s" do the springs still fit?

Yes the spring fit, I've still got them in but the height is exactly the same as the std specB ones. They were exceptionally noisy until Sean put some coil wrap in.

They were the Whiteline control which I'm sure are ment to bring it down 15mm or so.

Same with the STi items. On the '06 they lower the car nicely. Look at the laterst crop of '07 GT tuned by STi, they are not any lower than a specB.

Thanks or the STi link, I'll have a peak in a moment.

I remember hearing that the reason why the 07 STi libs have different springs to the 06 STi libs is becuase the 06 STi libs where bottoming out, so subaru fitted different STi springs to avoid this for the 07.

^^^^^^ Interesting, any owners of '06 GT STis able confirm problems with bottoming out?

I'm still suspicious of some underlying change to the suspension of the '07 as Whiteline quote their control spring will lower the car by 15-40mm and do specifically say only 15mm on some aplications as some cars are factory lowered. Fair enough but two of us have no reduction in height at all.

Phat is looking into exact specs of Tein High Tech to see if these will bring down an '07.

Cat, were your springs initially noisy? You've had these same springs re-set, how did they do this and at what cost finacially and how does it ride?

What would you advise others to do, apart from coil overs.
