I'm guessing that was 2nd gear to 6,000rpm judging by the speed? AF's look good under boost - IDC has heaps of headroom - knock count zero Boosts to 15.5 in a spike (target looks to be 14PSI?) and trails to 13psi.

parso_rex and others may have more insight into the IAM than me but looks strange

The log this was of a run up hill going from 2nd-3rd under heavy load where the surging was at its worst. (speed is mph, wrong unit selected)
I can see that knock correction advance is going negative around lines 156, 183 & 218 and this corresponds to the drop in RPM. The disturbing thing is the knock sensor appears to be seeing no knock! Also in these regions AFR has incresed to around 14.5 - 15 momentarily before the correction is added which does indicate lean

Well after the shock of the 0.3125 yesterday I reset the ECU following that. After the missus driving the car today, its back at 1.000 - thats after I told her no flooring it for now!

I'm just going to run this tank of BP Ultimate empty then try a belly full of Shell V-Power (98) and log the same run up the hill and log again - see what happens. I didnt realise that when I connect to the ECU RR is allowing me to log FLKC and FBKC and IAM - I was setting up the logging profile before hopping in the car. so next log I will have logs of:

• CL/OL Fueling
• Engine Load
• FBKC
• FLKC
• IAM
• Total Timing
• Manifold Relative Pressure
• Primary Wastegate
• Throttle opening %
• Accellerator %

This *should* give a better picture of what's going on I hope.

I was logging knock signal on/off (doesnt appear to be a "knock count" field) and it never once went high. The only thing I can think is that as the ECU is sampled every 300ms (~3 samples per second), in the instance the knock was present the ECU was not being sampled, however it obviously contributed to reducing FLKC, the FBKC then eventually cut back the IAM.

I connected to the ECU just now, and knock count/sum option wasn't there All of the parameters i mentioned before were, but not knock sum. I'm guessing its not defined for my ECU in the RR Logger definitions.
Anyway, I checked learning view, and still currently IAM 1.000 and all 0's in the fine learning table. That included some mild up hill load around 2-4k, but nothing WOT. (did not have laptop with me to log at that time)

I will log on Monday avo on the way home up the previous hill where i ran into trouble and see what it does. Will be putting in a tank full of V-Power first to hopefully work out if its fuel or not.....

Got to log a couple of decent runs today with tank full of Shell V-Power.

1st one up the big hill at WOT in 3rd resulted in no FLKC or FBKC being applied during the run, however I still felt the surging around 4-5k Im stumpped as to what it could be. In the attached log (expressway) it was around rows 328-343 where you can see the revs surging while at 100% throttle.

Second WOT run was through 1st/2nd/3rd and again, felt the surge in the top of the revs in 3rd, but not in 1st or 2nd.

Learning view showed the attached also at the end of the day. Some minor corrections but nothing major.

Can you guys please have a look at the two logs and give me your thoughts on what may be causing it?!

The only other thing I can think is the surging may be due to the auto trans slipping?! I had the trans fluid flushed/changed last service however when checking the level the other night, it seems the fluid is over the full mark when hot. Could an overfull trans possibly be causing the torque converter to slip?

overfilled? I wouldn't think so - it'd make it easier for the rotor fan blades to push fluid past the stator blades and hence transfer power from the crankshaft to the gearbox input shaft. If the fluid level was low, maybe it'd slip

Mark - would like to hear your opinion - do you think this is an issue with tune/fuelling or possibly something mechanical?

I think you have to determine what is generating the knock. Is somethings not physically working correctly then no tuning is going to solve the problem permanently you might mask it for a while. I guess what you could to is look at the region where knock occurs and take say 3 degrees off the value round those cells. At least this way you can see a reaction and its certainly not going to hurt anything. If you still see knock after that then you've got something physically knocking elsewhere i reckon although that injector prob could be a real possibility. Try it and see if it still does it and if so take it to S&J just to get the prob sorted then if its easily fixed you can start running a better tune without the risk of something nasty happening.

Well a week or so later, and still this is the result:

So must have been a bad batch of fuel with regard to severe knocking I think. There is still minor correction every now and the, but seems that Steve's STi is the same - just average stock tune I think....
However surging is still there. Spoke to Sean @ S&J again, he said only way to tell if its the injectors is a new set - which is ~$1,600!!! So not sure what i'm going to do. Car goes in for a whiteline ALK tomorrow - may have to have more discussion about what can cause this and let him have the car for a while longer.
