STI Enkei's with spacers?

Postby pips06 » Sat Aug 01, 2009 11:45 am

Has anyone thought about using spacers on their stock STI rims to give a more aggressive look. The rims sit a little too far inside the wheel arches for my liking.

As shano said it’s not really legal, but it has been done to a few cars on here, with good visual results, phat can you get you quality spacers if you need some.

LOL. Very true they are illegal but every second thing I do life these days is illegal.

By the way I know alot of guys using spacers these days. I was using them on my Audi A4 Supertourer to get these magnesium wheels on.

Make sure if you go with spacers that they are install properly.

Spacers put stress on the hubs that they weren't designed to handle. Avoid them. Having a car that looks good is one thing, have one that could kill you because of that is another.

I am running 5mm spacers on the 08 rims. Adds to the look but I think 10mm is what is really required. Using 10mm though you would probablbly want to run longer studs.

The best solution is to use hubcentric spacers so the wheel still fits onto the hub ring....but the minimum is 20 or 25mm and you will definatley have issues with the guards rubbing.

i would love to see a hub that is broken.
only thing you need to worry about is that is puts more load on the outside of the bearings, = less life.
secondly to get hub-centric ones so that the vehicle weight is not sitting on the wheel studs rather than being supported by the lip on the hub.

i will be getting some 20 or 25mm ones in the next few weeks for the front and rear..
just not sure yet which size i will be getting. outback guards FTW!!

Ben.

Funny that anyone should try this. Most people get non-enkei wheels and have to take +42 or +48 as an offset and wish the offset was +55 to match the factory specs.

If you want to have a more agressive look, buy some enkei rip offs with a lower offset.

Got to say that Shane's look awesome with the spacers on... and would be even better with an additional 5mm or so...

I have also not heard of anyone ever having issues with running spacers, but thats not to say its worth doing as they are, as has been mentioned, illegal.

That said, I know plenty of people run them, and most aftermarket wheel shops will stock them all the time, so they obviously fit them to a fair number of cars!?

I have, it's not funny.

From memory, I've destroyed 7 sets of Subaru wheel bearings and had a couple destroy the hubs to the point of being unusable, but not quite a complete failure.

The hub that failed sheered the wheel off at the spokes, ripped the brakes from their bolts, started a small fire and basically ripped the front guard clean off. All in all, a great result because it could have been a lot worse.

Not caused by spacers though, caused by heat cooking the grease.

Obviously not an issue for the ricers unless they have a neon malfunction.
