Introduce yourself

the new guy

Postby liberty bells » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:01 pm

Hi guys/gals,

Firstly i am new at this so go easy on me...........

Just purchased a MY08 3.0L b-Spec (brand new), its the first subaru i have owned and i am lovin the machine and am very happy with the selection of brand and model.

I believe that guys (people in the know) call the MY08 a Gen4? Is there a Gen5 etc?

Just wondering if there are any problems/issues with the model that i should know about. Also are there any ways to get cheap HP with out voiding the warranty?

Cheers

Not yet, but soon.

Not really.

Not massive gains. You can get some improvement by tuning. What state are you in?

Welcome.

Great first car into the Subi realm.

So, usual questions:
Pics?
Color?
Wagon / Sedan?
Auto / Man?

And as Ric said, tune with give you some nice gains.

Enjoy the mad house.

Welcome to the forums Mark and congrats on your purchase of a NEW Liberty and she's a H6 :D Another one to join Team Silver !

A good place to get the Soobie serviced in Brisbane would be Boxer Service @ Brendale but there other recommended places.

As the guys have previously posted the link to the thread where a bunch of us are getting our Libs tuned this week by Paul from Pulse Racing, the most to
benefit are the GT ( turbo ) owners, I'm the only H6 in that group. Will let everyone know how Paul goes with my H6 after Friday.

Enjoy your ride mate !

thanks loweart, car look the goods there to mate.

Would be awesome if you could let me know how you go with Paul and would definitely be interested to see the B&A dyno graphs. I will definitely get some sort of engine tuning done to my H6 just have to wait till probably after the first service (my thoughts). Also good to see from the links that Paul flashing of ECU's is undetectable by subaru, which hopefully means i get to keep my warranty..Correct??

Just one question on the boxer service joint.... I have an extended factory warranty on my vehicle and they have told me that if i get the car serviced any where else during the Normal 3 year warranty period then i will loose the extended warranty of which i have already paid for.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for your kind comments regarding my Lib.

I'm more than happy to share with you ( or any other H6 owner ) the results of this Friday's tuning venture being done by Pulse Racing. Please be aware
that at this stage, Paul has advised that he hasn't been able to perform a custom tune on the later H6 models that have the Si drive, which I believe your Liberty would fall into that category. Never say never though, because there's always someone out there experimenting with OpenSource tuning
and yes, the custom tune ( if doable ) being done by Paul will not lock out the ECU to others or factory servicing equipment.

The other thing that Paul offers and has done so successfully on other H6 Libs is fit the Haltech Interceptor piggy back ECU, so that's another option for
extracting additional performance and economy.

Gotta love extended warranties ( sometimes, NOT ) ! You'll need to read the conditions and fine print of the extended warranty that has been provided with the sale of your vehicle. I'm not saying these extended warranties aren't worth it as really depends on the conditions you're bound by, what is actually covered and the servicing cost. I had an extended warranty on my previous 2.5i Lib that had great conditions like fixed price minor & major services for the term of the warranty and that also allowed for the vehicle to be serviced/repaired by any authorised Subaru Service Centre Oz wide. Let's face it, many warranties and probably more so with the extended ones, are trying to keep you as a customer for as long as they can and gain additional business from you.

Cheers,
Lok

Yeah right...shit..

I should actually clarify that i did not actually pay for the ext warranty. As the car was an 08 and i recently bought the car (heavily reduced price due to up coming release of the new shape lib), the ext warranty i guess added to help with the sale of the vehicle however i guess you always pay for it some how. Yeah it is aus wide as well.

Well, when I bought my current 3.0R Lib earlier this year, the dealership included an extended 3yr warranty at no cost ! I wasn't too worried as they added it after I had signed off on the agreed price and there was no way I was going to allow a Toyota dealership service/maintain a Subaru Liberty ?????

Yeah i am not too worried either, my preference would be a subi dealer anyway, i am pretty ruthless when it comes to warranty claims, (if they are anything like toyota, ford, mazda etc they all eventually buckle)..hehehe

hope to here from ya after friday, btw is your 3.0R auto? and if you have a chance to ask Paul if there is a difference between man/auto as far as engine tuning goes?
