Time to go Camping

Postby CJ1177 » Sat Jul 25, 2009 6:57 pm

I got my self a Jayco campervan a few weeks back & finally just got the towbar fitted :) in preparation for our big family road trip, I thought I would try it out & see how it sat behind the Liberty. I had a lot of friends doubting me saying it would drag its bum, the car is to low etc :D ha ha it was all good for the trip around the block at least :D :D as you can see.

Any way our plan ATM is to go from Newcastle down to Melbourne across to Tasmania do the circuit of Tas then back to Melbourne then down the great ocean rd & back up through central Victoria & back home again over about 2-3 weeks in early September.
So if any one has some great ideas on places we should stop & see along the way, please say so it would be much appreciated :D

So we also have a few camping trips locally to do between now & then to sort out any bugs in the system, which should be fun.
A few things I did notice on the 1/2hr drive is damn the fuel consuption is going to be crap it was on boost with very little effort even down hill  & oooh the clutch when/after reversing :? not good. as the caravan is keept up a small grass hill, it got a bit a bit smelly :( by the time i got it back into place.

Looks like you will have fun Chris with the camping :), Sounds like you have a really good trip planned out. So when does the Club sticker go on the back of the Caravan? ;)

She's a tad low, and that's unpacked by the pics of the wagon. Whens she's loaded in boot and so is the van - I agree, she'll be draggin her bum and on boost the whole time. Doh!

But, in the scheme of things, who cares!! We love campin!!! Looks like a great trip planned and there is plenty to visit down here in Vic and damn - the roads in Tassie are just nuts!! Totally built for AWD Subi's!! So make sure you set the van and go for a few drives by yourself!

Enjoy!

How does it handle twisty roads with the van on the back? ;)

Nice one Chris! Hey with the coilovers can't you just adjust the rears to a higher level? Would that make it even under load?

The joy of towing with a turbo car  , your right about always being on boost CJ, when I first got my car I towed 2 skis to coffs, it took some time to get use to it at first, it helped to switch SI drive to I mode, it made throttle response easier to mange whilst on boost and it helped with the fuel consumption

Btw….. looks like fun
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

Yeah thats the plan, & thats why im keen to go on a number of trips Before we leave on the big trip so I can sort out things like that, but at the moment i'm quite happy with the way it sits, but tht is with out any extra luggage load. :?
