Pulse Tuned - Dyno Sheets Please.

Postby WhiteGTB » Wed Jul 01, 2009 8:23 am

Guys, there been alot of talk around Open Source tuned by Paul and a good number of us taken our cars there.

I didn't want to crash another thread so instead posted up a new topic for it purley for Dyno Sheets and comparisons.

My mods... PHAT DP, K2 Gear mid pipe and K2 Gear Quads & AVO CAI, manual.

Anyone else have their car tuned by Paul? Post up for your dyno sheets for comparison? (just want to mention this isn't about comparing how big/small the numbers are but about how these figures are achieved, I for one ain't no expert and the figures seem to vary abit)

There is a Dyno Day at IS @ Rockdale coming up which I'll put my car on to get a readout from another dyno to compare, will be posting it up here too.

From the Dyno sheets, are you able to work out what is best rev range to change gears at?

I'm guessing first up you need the Dyno's to show rev's and not k's...

Nice smooth result WhiteGTB!

Glad you posted your mods too, really helps understand how the car reacts to different changes.

w.r.t your ideal change point question. Easiest way is to put it in the gear it was on the dyno and drive up to the speeds listed and note the rpm. You'll quickly get the idea how the graph was scaled, well before you're breaking the speed limit. Otherwise, get your gear ratio and final drive and reverse engineer the ratio's to calculate wheel speed, etc . . . . . but that's just to hard compared to going for a drive. ;)

Really glad to see that ironing out the AFR and Boost has got rid of the disgusting hesitation crap.

What driving are you thinking? these are my thoughts
- If you are talking max attack drag race, your power curve suggests to shift as close to redline/cutout as possible (you'll get max time in the shorter ratios and the time that you are off the power to make the shift will be at higher speeds, marginally reducing lost time)
- If you are talking race track driving, again, highest revs you want, however, your torque curve suggests that you could also carry a higher gear through a corner and save a shift after the corner (particularly if it's a choice of 3rd or 4th considering how close they are)
- If you are talking quick road driving where you don't want to fall off the left of that torque plateau, I'd suggest shifting at around 5500rpm (assuming that the peak torque in that curve is around 3400rpm - 170km/h cutout at 6500rpm and peak at 88km/h) which would most of the time drop you back around 4000rpm. Shifting at 5000rpm will see revs drop back to between 3600 and 3800

Trieu's car is running more boost, but it still shows what a huge restriction the centre pipe and mufflers are.

If someone wants to donate a 3inch cat-back I'll be happy for my car to be fitted with it so we can check out what the gains are.

Just run it up on the dyno with no pipes after the dump.

That would sound awesome!

I don't think the problem will be with the donating! Because if he can gain 30kw with just the the catback, I don't think he's giving it back! :D

Actually, this test isn't as silly as it sounds. Might be something that I do when I do my dyno run up of all my bits being fitted. Would be very interesting to see how the car goes with:
1. Factory dump only
2. Factory dump + centre
3. Factory dump + centre + aftermarket/modified cans

Clearly noise and heat will be big issues, but that's sort of manageable with exhaust fans and ear muffs on a dyno.

At least get some reasonable answers around what restrictions are being added in by bits. Had some interesting results last time I did this, and it's not too hard to do. :-) . . . . *Adds to list of things to do when on the dyno*
