Anyone chipped their 2.5 N/A engine

Postby [Liberty2.5] » Fri Jul 25, 2008 5:00 pm

Hey,

Just curious if any one has chipped their naturally aspirated engine?

If so, what type, how much, and did it make much difference?

Thanks :D

Hey mate,
there is another forum which i started a while back on this and didnt get much response from it. Got told a tune would be better...but got no answers as to the reality of tuning an n/a.
and also the phrase,'sure you can do it if you want your engine to blow up' got thrown around a little bit so im not sure if its the best thing.

cheers
just want to upgrade already!!!

overload with the tune, is that pretty pricey compared to the little gains you would get?

i have been noticing that lately with beer too...

the AF tune will get u better km/$ of fuel.

depends on your other bits too. exhaust system. how big? this that...

this is purely playing with the AF ratio tho, not the timing and all that.

ie: SAFC + tune

usually a tune on dyno will set u back around 200~300 depending on who you go to and how "good" he/she is.

i'm looking at getting my car chipped, but not ready to do anything mroe to it untill subaru sort out the "new and improved version of our great DMF" whcih they put in not so long ago.

edit: DMF + clutch plate was replaced 11 Sep 2007 at subaru glenn.

comment for replacement was: "REPLACED DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCHPLATE DUE TO , NOISY OPERATION"

even gave me the warranty cost...

the "v-tune" by Vinnie (?) at Docklands is supposed to be good, heard some good reports for around the $300 mark... but would it really do that much for the 2.5NA? I've only heard reports done on 3.0R's and GT's...

I'd be looking at other benefits like driveability and throttle response as opposed to peak power which would be minimal if any gains. Otherwise would rather spend the $300 or so on higher impact mods such as an uprated rear swaybar :D

You should get a few gains out of getting a tune.

The areas that can be improved on are throttle responsiveness, fuel consumption and power.

Subarus are tuned for passing emission testing and the worst case fuel possible in a country, or sometimes its a hand full of countries.

I have worked on forced induction subarus, but not NAs.

I was looking at doing my own, but I am not sure that the NA liberty is a supported car under ROMRaider.

In all I would say that it would make the car a bit more fun to drive.
I have a nephew named Anferny, and I know how much he hates it when I call him Anthony. Almost as much as I hate the fact that my sister named him Anferny - Tim Meadows
