and its pretty low in liberty standards, i guess when i did mine i figured i was fitting lowering springs to shocks that had seen 100,000 klms with no love, so worst that could happen is i would need to replace them sooner, or install coilovers sooner ;) with my bump stops cut ive still had my car bottom out and with 19s it doesnt do any damage or scrub as far as i can tell, and i cut my bumpstops a few months back.

besides, if such a pretty car like ariths has them cut then im sure it cant hurt

there is a difference between wearing them out and put the shaft through the bottom or top of the shock casing. i guess they where not put there nothing

If you do find the ride of your lowered Liberty unbearable, I would also recommend cutting the rear bump stops, if only by a little bit, to restore a bit of ride comfort. As 541NTT said, either way stock shocks are on their way to a premature trip to shock heaven anyway once you lower the car. Otherwise I've seen aftermarket JDM bump stops that are shorter and stronger than stock ones.

the rear struts still have another bumpstop inthe strut itself to stop this from happening.

Wrong way to go about it, for comfort reasons. Better to get longer and softer ones, which have a more compressive spring rate and will absorb much more dampening. You'll get a more supple ride.

Both front and rear do - that is what I was referring to on the previous page. You'll be hitting the internal bump stop before the chassis bump stop. It's the way they're designed. Not sure however that you'll punch the inner rod out of the bottom of the shock though even without bump stops

My car (albeit a Gen III, but same suspension design) does this and i've cut the bump stops till theres about a 1/3 of them left...
And its only on decent sized bumps when going over 60 km/h.

hey sheepo
how are you mate? just wondering about cutting the bump stops. are you running bilsteins? just curious as i dont want to damage the shock if it bottoms out and did you do the fronts also

shane

Hey Shane,
Good, hows all your bits going? Brembo's make me jealous...

No Bilsteins, got Tein Flex's a while ago now (maybe a year?), so I can wind down the strut body, but keep the spring height and shock travel the same.

not in the rear for the libs, you definitly hit the chasis bump stops before the strut BS, if you see pics of my car before the kit when i had it lowerred it was pretty down there and i had to cut the chasis bumps as it was sitting on them, but i know i wasnt on the strut bumpstops yet because the ride was still nice in the back, the front is a different story ;)
