ok got it all aligned.... and it sparked up today :) ..... so this is the problem ... the right head... sounds like the valves are fkd.... rattling... how much will reconditioning a head cost me (valves i heard are $50 each brand new and 8 in there so thats $400 + Labour) ???

I'd say the labour costs are going to be rather high.

I'm no expert, but from what I've heard, I reco kit for the EJ20 isn't worth much money... But the labour could be anywhere from $3500 - $6000. Considering you situation, if I were you, I'd be making sure everything internally was ship shape, even if it did cost a bit of extra coin... Your dealing with what is essentially the heart of your car :D

I have to ask, how come your not just going through insurance? Sounds like the prang wasn't minor & you could be up for a bit of cash to repair.

Good luck with getting your car fixed. I think you have under estimated some of the figures. 3.5k for a brand new engine, please tell me where and I will buy one as a spare just in case. That is unless it is your dad that is going to be rebuilding everything for you?? Mind you if he was going to be doing it I'd want him to be more up to speed than requesting a timing belt diagram from here.

A major service is over a $1000 on it's own and that doesn't involve anywhere near what you are going to have to look at doing.
