Sunroof trim rattling...

Postby tangcla » Tue Jun 09, 2009 3:47 pm

Just wondering if anyone else is having issues with their sunroof trim (the fabric one) rattling when it's fully open, and is there any easy way to fix this?

Can you find out what was involved in this sunroof servicing?

I took it in under warranty about 3 months after I bought it complaining that it squeaked like mad (when I opened the glass bit). They took they car for an hour and returned it with a heap of grease over the rails, and guides. I forgot the mention about the rattle of the material screen when I dropped it in, but for some reason, it stopped rattling after I got it back. (Maybe the grease is on the edges of the screen now??)

Mine rattles as well. But it is when it is fully closed. It's getting pretty annoying.

After reading this thread, I went outside and applied some automotive grease to the rails and hinges of the sunroof. Went for a test drive and first impressions are squeaks are definitely less. Will update tomorrow when I have gone for bit more of a test drive.

Mine's an MY06 Spec B and it started pretty much as soon as I drove it out of the lot.

I took it back to Docklands and they just greased it which left marks everywhere. I wasn't happy so they cleaned it.

Still not happy I went back to an independant dealer that I use to get the Outback serivced by (I was always happy with their service). They replaced the whole roof liner. If I had my time again I'd just kick and scream until they gave me a new one at Docklands.

By the way it did take a whole day for them to do it - that could be why Docklands couldn't be bothered doing it.

DANG! Spoke too soon - it's rattling again and the glass bit 'groans' as it opens and closes.... Here we go again...

Spose it's going out in sympathy with the clutch spring that now makes a grinding noise when lifted too!!
