Hello as the title says i have a 07 STi ECU which has ECUTEK TYPE II $1800 worth of Licencing & tuning and let alone what the ecu is worth itself..

Even if it is from a Lib, unless you have those exact mods, which is what the Type II tune from EcuTek is configured for, you'll probably have to get it re-tuned.

EcuTek is a rip. $1400 could have been saved from using OpenECU instead of EcuTek. Hardware is entirely the same, the software has the same parameters as well. On top of that, EcuTek locks your ECU so you can never revert back to unmodified.

any ecutek tuner can flash the ecu back to stock & unlock it for future use.

I was told by a prospective EcuTek dealer (which subsequently turned down the offer) that once it is EcuTek'd, it can't be unlocked and reverted back to unmodified, ever.

I could be wrong, though.

Umm, where did you hear that? Because I called MRT to ask whether or not the EcuTek flash can be removed entirely. They said the EcuTek would still be there, they only put a stock map back on to give it a stock appearance. But the license and software is still there permanently on the ECU. So yeah, it's a bit of tricky wording on their part although it's has to constitute some sort of 'damage' to the ECU if it involves permanent replacement of the factory ECU.

but heres more proof for you guys from MRT themselves

Once an ECU is upgraded with a map other than the factory item with ECUTEK software it will prevent access for a number of reasons including intellectual property of the tuner, intellectual property of ECUTEK and simply to prevent changes to the map for safety and relaibility in the engine and its tune (Safety for the end user - You). Once flashed back to a standard map (which ANY ECUTEK agent will do for ANY client) the ECU will be able to be accessed by any 'Legitimate' software / hardware package - And that includes but is not limited to the factory Subaru hardware (which has never been disputed).
