Dump Pipe.... MMmmmm Burble

Posts specific to the 2.5 litre turbo engine

i had a wrx for 5 years before i got the 05GT and i tell ya, that burble pissed me off in the end.

granted my exhaust system wasnt exactly tame. it would burble when idling so even in regular driving it was a bit loud.

i wouldnt mind the burble but would only want it to kick in at around 3.5 to 4k revs so that when im just cruising its silent, but when you boot it, it growls.

I'm more interested to see what the torque curve looks like. Peak power is nothing when it comes to usability and 'drive'

All good GTSpecB STI :)

Craig, yes, I'm with you. I was after that kick in the back kinda feeling.

Man this is a classic example of doing something constructive at work!!!

Ok, finally have abit of time to post these figures up after several requests.

Performance mods that are running are Phat’s DP and K2 Gear cat back exhaust plus an AVO air filter and Paul’s tune.

I pounded the car at the track on the weekend and it felt great, drives like a different car and didn't miss a beat.

Extremely happy with Paul's results, I have confidence in his work and I am sure (I hope to god) my engine has been safely tuned to run like this all day, everyday.

My only concern has been his dyno results. Next objective is to hit another dyno to see and compare some results.

Not the best method, but im really keen to see the results as you have similar performance mods to what im planning.

How does the car feel to drive now?

Damn! why didn't I think of that!

Will do.

And you're in IT!!! :D :D haha!

Nice numbers BTW. Does she kick you in the back when you launch?

Real shame the graphs aren't x RPM. :( xKM/h really sux to interperate.

Very linear power and reasonably flat torque considering.
I'm quite surprised at how flat the boost curve is though, the boost control system in the GT-B must be a LOT better than previous Subaru models.

And even I think the power number is a bit on the optimistic side. Is it in 3rd or 4th gear? Looks like it could be 3rd???

Look at the scale on the graph, there is a 4 or 5 psi taper from full boost to redline.

Can't understand why you'd need to read up to 43psi in a road car. It makes the graph VERY difficult to read.

thanks for posting just the same but yes agreed that it is very difficult to read much into it especially with no base line stock reading. Good to hear the bum dyno is happy.

Thanks for posting your graphs. Once my turn comes around for the Phat Exhaust system I'll probably go and see Paul.

I'll have similar mods to you, only I'll probably stick with a HKS panel filter. Only other diff is the TMIC. Will be interesting to see the difference.

Thanks again!

given you have a bigger tmic then I reckon you will be pushing out 210 kw atw given this result.

Ahh, ye sorry. Didn't look at the scale. Scaling it up that high is just silly. Looks like it's doing ~17psi -> 13psi at redline, that sounds a bit more like a Subaru.
Thanks for pointing that out Tony. :D Makes me a little more sure of my mod path. One less bank of questions to ask now.
