Comparison - Liberty/Legacy/GT/STi ECU tunes

Postby AWDDave » Wed May 02, 2007 12:12 am

I have been studying the following tunes in recent days:

1. ADM MY04 GT (5AT)
2. ADM MY05 GT (5MT)

3. JDM MY04 GT (5MT)
4. JDM MY04 GT (5AT), supposably "STi" tuned
5. JDM MY04 GT (5AT)

Firstly, looking at the 1 & 2 showed vast amount of differences between the MT and AT tuned, mainly in the areas of timing. The AT timing seems very progressive whilst the MT seems very aggressive that picks a few holes in a number of areas, especially around 4,000rpms.

Looking at 3 & 5 showed less degrees of differences, with main changes around mid-throttle showing more aggressiveness on cars with MT.

Compared 3 & 4 and showed no difference, so I'm gathering it wasn't a real STi tune. But only had a brief look at it, so differences could be elsewere.

Whilst comparing 1/2 vs 3/4/5 showed a real detune between JDM and ADM models.

I will be doing some more studying of these tunes before I build my own model...

If you compare that to the ADM 07, i think you'd find a further de tuned ecu.

But make sure you allow for our fuel and weather when you build your tune.

Keep us posted.

Got a response via PM, thought I would share (hope this is ok dave)

The ADM are very "retarded" in comparison to the JDM maps. IF I remember correct, the timings were heavily reduced (in some areas, up to 15degrees could be seen)

I also compared manual 04 maps with auto 04 maps (190 vs 180 kw) and even tried a manual map in my car (automatic). The pick up was terrible but offered good top end. The manual ADM map looks like a mix between JDM and ADM automatic.

In terms of running JDM maps... I found it to be fine. I experienced no pinging in the time I had it (2 years, covered 55,000klms). A little bit more efficient and minimal power difference.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the maps anymore, as I've sold off the car...

Well I managed to track down copies of the following:

a2zj600b.HEX – 2003 JDM legacy GTB twin scroll Manual
a2zjd00b.hex – 2004 MT legacy twin scroll (presume JDM map)
A2WD010G.hex – 2004 AUS Legacy GT A/T
A2WD010A.hex – 2004 JDM LEGACY GT A/T
a2wd001a.hex – 2004 JDM legacy AT 2.0 single turbo

Plan to have a look at them all over the next week as I get spare time, then will be discussing with my local tuner just where he thinks he can go with developing a better map for my car ;)

While I haven't had much chance to go over the tunes over the weekend (sons 1st birthday party took 99% of my time! LOL) I have just been searching the use of the VAG-COM cable for re-flashing/logging our ECU. Seems on the USDM cars they are compatable, and at ~$25 delivered from china, they are far cheaper than the $200 odd for a tactrix cable.

My question is, has anyone tried to log or flash using a VAG-COM cable?

Thanks! :)

(will update on the maps later this week I hope)

Thought stuff it - bought the cable will see if it works when it arrives in a week or two.

Been reading on tuning of Subaru's and seems that there are really only a few idiosyncrasies with the Subaru ECU logic (knock control & closed to open loop transition) So it seems to me that tuning for someone known as a guru for tuning EVO's (3-10) shouldn't have any trouble tuning Subaru so hoping it will open some options for me in the tuning stakes ;)

From what I've noticed so far:

  • Auto Maps (ADM & JDM) Have more intake cam advance in lower rpm/load regions in the AVCS than manual Maps. Exhaust is the same for all
  • JDM Auto Map has more ignition timing in the mid range (2-4 degrees) than the Australian Map
  • JDM Auto Map has more fueling in the mid range than the Australian Map to match the advancing of the ignition
  • Drive by wire settings (requested torque) are the same for both JDM and ADM 04 Auto.
  • Boost control settings are the same for both JDM and ADM 04 Auto

So looking at this, given I only run BP Ultimate I'm thinking of flashing the JDM map to my ECU, and driving it for a while logging to see if there is any knock. If no knock, I'll probably keep the JDM map on there ;)

Have you been able to have a look at any STi tuned maps?

Unfortunately not as I have not been able to get an STi ROM image.
If you are able to pull the ROM from your car, or have the oportunity to get me a copy, I would be happy to compare them 8)

OK now have a copy of the 06 STi ROM I believe.

ROM ID is A2WD010Y - dont suppose anyone can confirm this is the correct ROM ID for a MY06 Auto STi?
