minimal increase imo for a lot of mucking around in some cases...

I can appreciate that !

I would want a slightly louder than stock note , but I think performance is our main aim , and if the stock air box / inlet is effective for a few kws (30-40) over factory tune then we`ll keep it stock I guess .

Thanks for the info fellas ;)

On their own, pod intakes are noisy and the gains are quite little (a bit quicker reaction time though). However when combined with other mods (ie- dump pipe, exhaust, etc) they prevent the intake from being the bottleneck at performance gains. So they are of a benefit in the overal scheme of things.

hey Trieu , we opted out of the mods at this stage . Rach likes it quiet :(

on the plus side , I can now vouch the factory gear is good for .........

182.6awkw 8) so no restrictions to this power level.
If your aiming at over 200 though CAI and TBE should get it over the line.

hey Phil :) its completely OEM right down to a factory air filter . Not one part changed or modified.
Paul at Pulse Racing did the tune , and the dyno had trouble in between power runs so had to be finished at another tune shop nearby , which is why ADVAN is on the printouts instead of PULSE.
it feels so much nicer to drive now , bottom end has opened up alot with the extra boost. Comes on early at around 2500rpm too ;)
give him a ring and put your stimulus cash to good use :)

Hyperflow have recently released this CAI unit for the new generation Liberty GT initially it was developed it for the WRX but have since fitted them to Liberty GT's and Forester XT's. Note the inclusion of the inner guard cover is necessary to cover the massive hole left from removing the factory airbox. The filter is also easily serviceable from within the engine bay when it requires cleaning simply by removing the inner panel.

Cold Air Intake System (CAI) the configuration of key dimensions is unchanged from the well proven MY06/MY07 2.5 L unit. It is a new part number with different port orientation on the airflow meter body, and a slightly changed pipe bend into the inner guard. The cold air intake is supplied as a kit with a CNC Machined and CNC folded panel to finish the inner guard. The high quality CNC machined airflow meter body and machined taper transitions in and out provide consistent flow characteristic’s to the airflow meter.

Cold Air Intake performance:
In our initial testing the cold air intake increased power by 8.8kw at the wheels on a Dyno Dynamics chassis Dynomometer (note no ECU tuning was done and boost stayed constant at 12.5psi all tests were performed on an independent dyno and performed in shootout mode).
The power gain was quite pronounced on the road. The Hyperflow CAI introduces a noticeable, yet not intrusive induction sound –desperately needed to give the MY08 some character.

Summary of power gains on MY08 WRX testing our CAI system:
1. Standard 131.8kw to 130 kw over 6 runs
2. Hyperflow Cold Air intake 140.6 kw over 6 runs

Kit is supplied with the below pictured filter. They are a Hyperflow branded filter fully Australian made. They are a lightly oiled serrated foam filter these offer superior filtration and great flow.

AFM + oiled filter that's got too much oil and/or that's close to the AFM = bad idea. I think with such a long intake tract it will be fine, the oil isn't going to be sucked up that far to the AFM.

Having said that... how does the long intake length affect throttle response?

I am yet to be convinced by any owner that this mod is necessary if you are only trying to push the limits of the stock turbo. It sounds cool but can make fine tuning much more difficult and unnecessary imo.

I am running a stock box w/ HKS panel filter and zero sports maf and it works flawlessly while providing more than enough air for my tuner to work with. I am at 170 kw atw and 415 Nm with my current set up and 85% duty cycle for fuel system while running 11.2 AFR across the board.

Spend your mod money wisely in these tight economic times is what I suggest.

From our experience the new age AFM's fitted to the 01+ Subaru’s have no problems with oiled filters as I’m told they have a heated element. Earlier models you need to be careful not to oil the filter too much. I’d rather an oiled filter anyday after seeing the benefits in filtration and flow they provide first hand.

From my experience throttle response is better than standard with the less restrictive intake. A larger plenum volume or intake restrictions such as the stock intercooler, inlet pipe and airbox will give you a non ideal throttle response.
