If you had $4K to spend on your car, what mods would you do?

Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

Tell me your wish list and price it out so we can see you're not lying. :D

Happy to use 2nd hand parts if we all know they come up regularly (like mufflers, etc)

If it was me, I'd do this:

$ 350 - Gutted mufflers
$ 300 - 3 Silicon hose kit
$ 300 - Silicon intake
$1000 - Reflash + dyno time
$ 400 - TGV delete + install as part of overall parts install
$1000 - AVO split dump
$ 175 - 3 port boost solenoid
$ 150 - Walbro fuel pump
$ 300 - Cool Action 2

$3975 Total. Should nett around 170-190kW ATW from the factory turbo with VERY early boost and very flat torque across the rev range.

The stereo stuff . . . . . . . well, that's another $4K exercise

:lol:

craig, is your stock intercooler going to be able to handle those numbers?

also, for the one dummy in the audience(me), what is a "TGV delete + install as part of overall parts install"?

We'll see what can be achieved. I'm not going to increase the boost, so the intake temp shouldn't _really_ rise. But we'll see. That's why the cool action's in the list, to help make the OEM cooler work a bit harder.

To quote me on another forum:

me :-) wrote:Hey guys,

What are these units deleting? Is it the old flapper that was inside the intake manifold that was closed during cold start then openned up once warm (emissions requirements) or is it something alltogether different and restricting in another way?

Don't spose you've got a side by side picture of stock v's aftermarket?

I think this could be an excellent mod, even on the stock turbo to help with further lowering the spool start point. All airflow in front of the turbo is good airflow. :-)
avoturbo wrote:Pics here http://www.avoturboworld.com/avoshop/product_info.php?products_id=430 basically what you are saying is correct regarding what is removed or deleted from the intake system.

They make a big difference with a big turbo, not so much with the smaller turbos..

OK, so that's the replacement:

Here's a shot of the OEM's:

Can understand the benefits for big turbos (I assume AVO420+ sizes) but extra airflow is extra airflow and reduced intake restriction.

Surely there's a good gain to be had on the 07 Lib GT 2.5T setup with it's factory unit??

--------------------------

Can certainly see where the benefit lies. For starters, any venturi affect would be completely destroyed by the bottom tunnel, as for the flap, well, that'll cause much the same issue as well as reducing the available surface area of the pipe (that thick black centre stick).

My next concern with this mod is cold start idling and fuelling.

Steve, would this be taken care of by an ECU reflash? Obviously the solenoids that activate the 4 flap would need to be disabled or disconnected, but does the cold fuelling get adjusted to suit via the standard fuel map or is there something special required here?

Also, any estimate on labour to install these things? Sounds like yukky to me :(
avoturbo wrote:Cold start and idle can be put right with the reflash, the few cars we've done this mod on have been relatively fine in that dept anyway.

labor? Best to call and check with Lee, I'd hate to think.

Top of that post. I may have editted it while u were reading. :-)

EDIT: And don't feel bad about the TGV Delete thing, I didn't realise they even existed until the other day when I was perusing the AVO product catalogue. I knew the issue was there since the Phase III Boxer engine (current version I think) was developed, but didn't know there was a solution. ;-) DAMN YOU EU Emissions standards!!!! *Shakes fist in air like old man*
