MY07 Sedan Sound Deadening review (w/o stereo upgrade)

Stereos, amps, phone kits, Navi...

Those interior door handles are a PIA! It took me about half an hour to get my first door apart as I started off being gentle and careful.. I installed auto window lifters that time, but sound deadening does sound tempting.. 8)

Got an auto window-lifting device installed thats integrated into the factory immobilizer and my aftermarket alarm to lift windows automatically whenever i lock the doors.. Very neat, kind of a novelty thing but I love it 8)

My time's at a bit of a premium on the weekends at he moment guys but I'm sure I can do a fly-by to get you started. Honestly, the hardest part is getting the doors off the Lib (bloody concealed handle screws!!) after which, it's all cut and roll activity.

If you haven't brought already, get an Extreme Bulk pack and you can't go past doitdirect.com.au for cheap price! Also get dyna-xorb deflex pads for the front doors. Makes a good difference.

I'm sure we could arrange a time got get everyone helping each other out. ;)

woudl you say this is the best balance between performance and weight?

mr blonde: i'm sure we can work somethign out. :)

You'll probably add about 9kg to the total weight of the car and the audio improvement is amazing.

To put that into perspective:
- a laptop is ~3kg
- my work lappy bag is ~12kg (fully loaded)
- a tank of petrol is ~55kg
- all that sports gear in your boot is probably around 20-30kg

Needless to say, the gain for the weight (I think) is cheap.

And on the up side, it gives you more reason to get those mods done and the ECU reflashed. ;)

Mmmmm, yes... More details required :D

Once the windows are up, does it continue to crank the power window motor? Or can it sense the windows are up?

I know a few people with S13's & S14's with this feature & aparently if the window is only gapped, the motor keeps going for a set period of time & it can burn the motor out eventually.

Nah the window motor stops when the window is completely closed.. Also to conserve battery each window closes one after the other, as opposed to all at once.

Sorry cpitts, don't mean to hijack the thread. If anybody wants to discuss the window lifters further I suggest they start a new thread

Spent the weekend installing Dynamat in all the doors. I got the bulk pack and used 8 sheets all up with one left over. It's a pretty time consuming job and my fingers are shredded as I didn't have a roller, but it was well worth it. I'm much happier with how the new stereo sounds now.

Getting the door trim off was definitely the biggest hassle. Those 2 bolts in the door handle kept me busy for a while. This has probably been covered before but for anyone who hasn't done this, the door handles split in 2... just carefully pry the top of the handle out and then pop the front half off with your fingers.

Yep. Just spent the last 2 weekends doing this. It's a full days job for a hack like me and so I spread it out over the two wwkends.

Taking off the trims is actually not as scary as everyone makes out. You just need to read the manual to find out how.

Here's the manual..
http://www.tangcla.com/temp/bl5/reference/
and here's the specific page that shows you how to remove the door trim
http://www.tangcla.com/temp/bl5/referen ... 20Trim.pdf

I just used a covered thin flathead screwdriver to pry the cover off the grab handle and a bent wire/nail to remove the cover from the door handle.

I used roadkill extreme and it cost me 180 for a "boot kit" with 10 sheets. In all, I used 2 packs (so $360)
1 pack did the inside and outside walls of the front doors and
1/2 pack did the (inside only) of the rear doors.
I also did the rear parcel shelf. That required the removal of the read seats and trim. Againg using the above linked manual it was a relatively easy task...just time consuming.

I recomend buying a large pack of surgical gloves as this will make the task much easier...the sheets are very very sticky and messy.

I used a small brush to rub it onto the surface.

All in all, very much worth it. Stereo sounds much better. Much better. Road noise is less, but still there, so don't expect miracles with this re. road noise.

Hope that helps.

FYI - I got the "boot pack" of RadKill from "No Limite Electronics"

Address

It's just called a boot pack as it contains 10 sheets. It's simply a good way to buy in bulk. Cost was $180. 10 Sheets is enough to do either 4 doors single or 2 doors inner and outer skin.
