Introduce yourself

New Owner

Postby BlackFZR » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:44 pm

Hi all, names Tim, longtime fan of subaru's, new owner.

Just got a 3.0 RB, a couple of days ago, and absolutely loving the ride. Not using it as a form of adrenaline, as I get that racing motorcycles. I'm more interested in minor tweeks, and ironing out any minor issues, as well as possible mods to the car.

Trying to find someone in WA that would be able to look at and hopefully tune at a reasonable price.

Welcome Tim.

3.0RB is a great car. I loved mine, warts and all.
What Model/Year/Sedan/Wagon/Auto/Manual/Colour ?? :-)

Your tuning options are a bit limited unfortunately. An exhaust on it will sound great (check the Phat Quad tip thread for an option), or look for a post by "suff" who is organising a group buy for a whole system here in Perth at what looks to be a good price.

Also look in the gatherings area as we are organising a meetup for some of the Perth guys, maybe as early as this Friday night.

Cheers

Dwayne

welcome. Glad to see another 3RB join. They are great fun. One of the best things you can do for it sound wise without going the exhaust route (and it'll cost you nothing more than half an hour of your time) is to take the resonator off the airbox. It won't improve performance and the engineers at Subaru might argue that it actually may degrade performance but at least you get a good induction sound that drowns out the rest of the engine noise.

As for a full exhaust, keep in mind that as long as the car is naturally aspirated you don't want a huge system - a smaller diameter system will promote a higher gas velocity which will help scavenging at low to middling revs. If however you are looking for more of a top end bias to the engine's performance, a bigger exhaust would be beneficial.

Sedan, Pearl White, and Manual......

I'm pretty lucky, as I'm about to sticker it up.... something subtle... Having your own vinyl plotter is lots of fun.

If you see anything riding around with a WTF Racing sticker on it, generally that will either be me or a member of my Motorcycle Race Team.

NA mods.

Postby DeMobBoss » Sun May 03, 2009 4:48 am

Performance mods for the naturally aspirated 3.0RB are incremental and good fun that way too. For the exhaust I recommend Hitech mufflers. If you call them at their Sydney phone number, Lambros the owner will probably be able to point you in the right direction for WA. The rest of the exhaust system is probably best left alone if you're gonna keep it NA. Taking the resonator box out makes a world of a difference sound wise inside the cabin - you can hear the rasp of the Porsche valve gearing sliding into action at high revs and it still remains street legal; BMW M series cars get away with this alll the time stock from factory. Probably the highest power yielding mod worth doing is putting a Haltech interceptor piggy backing on your ECU. That last mod could void your warranty if you're not careful so make sure you find a friendly pro-mods Subaru service centre.

BTW to all you Sydney siders reading this STI Lindfield and Subaru Penrith are fairly pro-mods, within limits of course.
Hope that helps,
Osanda
