Standard Liberty V Spec.B

Postby modern_messiah » Fri Apr 17, 2009 8:29 am

Hi all,

First post so please go easy on me lol. I've never used car forums before and this is the first time I'm actually taking a real interest in any vehicle other than just keeping it on the road!

Basically I was in the local Subaru dealer yesterday checking out colours for a new Liberty Heritage and I happened to spot a 09 Spec.B sitting pretty in the middle of the show room. Steel silver with those dark chrome mags....it looked fantastic and it got me wondering.

Cosmetically, what are the differences other than the obvious.

- Bonnet Scoop
- Larger (and different style) mags
- Lower ride height
- slightly redesigned front end/bumper

I can't see any changes to the rear end of the car, or the sides.

I'm not interested in internals at the moment, just curious as to the differences as I SWEAR there are things I'm missing but I could be wrong. It just seems like the stance and look of the car is different for more than the reasons I've listed above.

Like I said I'm new and know NOTHING about Subaru's (my previous interest was in Audi's) so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

- Matt.

yeah i think cosmetically everything u pointed out there is spot on.... spec b has a nicer front bar IMO (who has a white one they wanna part with? =) )

obviously the bonnet, and u've got the HID headlamps (compared to my pov spec 2.5i)

as for the read and sides of car, everything else is pretty much the same.... thats why i like to pretend mine is a GTB when ppl spot me from behind.... hehe kidding

I thought the ride height actually sits slightly higher due to the firmer Bilsteins? However the 215/45-18 Spec B wheels are larger than the standard 215/45-17 ones, so they fill the wheel arch more and are closer to the fender, thus having an appearance of being lower.

Arith is right. According to the Subaru site the minimum ground clearance for the Spec.B is 10mm higher, and as such the car is taller by 10mm. I'm guessing here (but it seems pretty obvious) but the lowered stance is deceiving and purely a result of the wheels filling the arches more.

That is something I definitely would NOT have noticed if it wasn't pointed out.

that 10mm is down to the 18" wheels over the 17" wheels.

Larger rear exhaust tips and front bar are the only extras I can think of

Yeah I know the scoop is there for a reason. I've just got back from a tour of the Brisbane Subaru showrooms. I saw more than I really cared for lol.
