No way STI 6 spd FTW !! that par is short for my nickname parso or in gen Y SMS number plate speak par 500. I get bagged by everyone of course...... too old for such stuff :)
I do have their 2WD drive conversion spool though. The car spins in 4th in the dry when it comes on boost its actually really unenjoyable to drive on the street like this even with the semi slicks utterly useless but I need it for the dyno....until end of May when the new machine turns up. Try and explain Dynomometer excitment to a female and see what looks you get ....

I think the Lib is going to have to get a few things done. I was one my way over to the shire tonight to talk tuning and ran into a silver GT wagon with if think a tuned by STI sticker on his rear but not the STI rims ?, its was defintiely a fair bit quicker than mine and believe me I gave it a bit of stick. smiles all round
hmm... I need to see a copy of the 07 08 tuned by STI rom

and since when is there a dyno at miranda?

Hes had a 2WD one there for a few years and prior too that it was at Taren Point as was Haltechs Dyno dynamics 4WD, GFS,s 4WD and also C&V theres also the old Tynan Subaru DD thats just moved to Pulse racing. Thinking about it theres quite a few around but yes only the one in Miranda. Come late May it will be the best one bar none with full 1500 NM retarders front and rear full logging options for Min timing both ignition and AVCS proper Autronic analysers etc etc ....... I've got to go and take one of my pills to calm down

Heres some pics of my car out at the Top Gear live thing in Feb please no comments about the Man love stickers :air_kiss:

I should be able to get this for you. Just need to contact my tuner and get him to send me the stock maps he pulled from mine last year pre-tune.

If you could get that I'd be very much in your debt. It would help see what they've done. I can guess the usual boost plus timing and fueling to suit but I'm sure they've modified a few other settings such as how aggresively it switches to the richer maps etc. Then again maybe they haven't done much at all. SI drive is also another thing I have to look at I'm sure its already been covered on the romraider forums I just have to get myself up to date. I have to stop stuffing with this STI
The Liberty is growing on me it is a really nice car to drive much and better than the blue thing much as it pains me to say

Heres a snap with the front bar removed and the new pipework being sized up (its still a bit dodgy though)

Yes not a huge amount of work done in the tuned by STi ROM over the SpecB but enough :)

SI drive is a waste of time and nothing is changed there between the STi and SpecB. Mainly better low-mid torque, better throttle feel and more willing to rev out. We saw about 12kw at the wheels difference back to back on a Dyno Dynamics 4WD dyno (which incidentally is more than Subaru quote.

Mine was 143kw at the treads so suspect its actually just over the 200kw at the flywheel

Oh and not surprised you find the Libertyy better to drive looking at the graph of the WRX. Wow - track car isn't it

Must be a beast in the right environment though - awesome power

OMFG that thing is huge & thick :D

BTW how come you haven't opted to spin the intake manifold around to take the intercooler piping out the front of the motor & away from the turbo

Nearly forgot to say Nice job, great work & what an animal

Well I could spin it all and then I'd have no aircon. Believe it or not this will have to be my daily driver and have two baby seats installed in it with my wife heading back to work.
Actually the thing about lag is not really that bad with a 2.5L and a proper tune. I used to think otherwise with my first 99 WRX but I've come to realise a few things. When we did the last tune in the lower say sub 2000 rpm areas I was able to add up 18 degrees of timing in places still with some margin before the torque peak. The Previous tune was probably just a conservative guess with maybe a couple of runs to confirm that they weren't seeing any knock

The new Mainline dynos have an optional feature called Minimum timing for best torque and actually talk to the ECU displaying the actual torque V current timing in that cell (graphically and numerically). Obviously this requires the ECU to have the ability to change in real time and of course have comms with the Dyno computer
I might actually post up a thread or rather a display of it in action when my wife lets me back to finish off the car

Well a bit of tuning achieved last night. Traction is a real problem on these rollers take boost over 8 psi and its a bit slippery LOL. Remembering this is using a 2WD dyno until the new 4WD one turns up next month

Image
168KW at 8 psi LOL. I have run 26 psi before so me thinks I might have nice high figure next month. Oh look closely at that window that overlays the background bet you haven't seen that one before wave.gif

Image
These are all the cells that I tuned individually in real time using the autotune feature. Note that we don't just do the usual few cells and then interpolate (guess) the ones between. This real time ability really gives you an edge when doing a proper tune. With the stock ECU I would have to do a careful run, log it, check the AFRs, calculate the correction to apply, reflash the ECU with the new parameters and then log again to check the recorrected values over and over again.... until you get close. i.e a real real pain in the ar$e.
Funnily this is what I will be doing soon for a few people I just love pain 8)

We took quite a bit of fuel out with the new cams. I'm still trying to get my grips around what I think will happen and then what actually does occur. You can see the 150 Kpa line anything more than this and it spins up so the rest will have to wait till late May

Image
Cam Timing, We took another 5 degrees out of a few cells here but this is really only an experiment. In the 3K RPM column we played with each load cell and adjusted the mimum value for maximum torque then we went back to check the Base fuel map and then went back over and played with timing. Strangely there wasn't much that needed doing here. I was expecting some larger changes but no. This was not in boost though. I'm also wary of the physical clearance of the valves and piston crown

Car sounds great and is completely useless on the street. Not looking forward to rain

I took some video that I was going to post up on SikTUBE but in true form of late I had strangley selected QVGA resolution .... useless pretty much.

A while ago someone made mention that the lib engines were "free spinning" (even at max lift the valves shouldn't be hit by the crown). For my own curiosity I did a couple of simplistic calculations and came up with the following squish heights going from bore/stroke/compression ratio specifications in manuals or on the Subaru website

smythie wrote:ahh, ok after some basic calculations (assuming flat piston and combustion chamber) I get the following squish height figures for our Libs

2.5GT:- 10.7mm
2.5i:- 8.8mm
3.0:- 8.25mm
2.0GT:- 8.8mm (couldn't find the bore/stroke dimensions so assumed from the current Impreza)

I guess, provided the valve lift is no more than 7 or 8mm your GT would be fine (conservative)

The Liberty is fine I'm not touching that motor only the ECU. This is on the STI with a worked 2.5 and its using cams with 10.7 mm lift !

I have a mate with an 05 GT wagon and his timing belt went at 34K Kms My first thought was a new motor but apparently as you say they don't hit
I'm guessing given the lower compression of the STI based motors in the 2.0L the clearance is greater than the WRX variants - because they hit
