Air box for Apexi pod filter

Postby et » Wed Mar 28, 2007 8:45 am

Hi all,
I seem to recall seeing a link (it may have been on the old libertygt forum) to a japanese website where someone had a step by step guide and photos/drawings on how to make an air box around the Apexi pod filter on a liberty/legacy GT.
Does anyone have a link to that site by any chance? I tried searching the web but could not find anything.
Alternatively has anyone made a similar box and if so could you post pics of your setup? Thanks.
Cheers

Don't have a link, but I have made an airbox so to speak out of the heat resistant foam from Clark Rubber.

Bought a metre of it for $20.

It is silver side (looks like metal) and foam side, with obviously the silver side on the outside of the box.

Cut a piece, then cut the hole for the intake pipe, and it sits in nice. Not the most professional looking job compared to spending $400 on a box, but value for money it's great.

Took me literally 10 mins to cut and fit.

Thanks Mick,

I've been to Clark Rubber and had a look at the heat resistant foam but was planning on glueing the foam to some sort of box.
Are you sugesting that foam is rigid enough to make a box out of it or did you simply use it to make a shield out of it?

I pretty much made a shield and boxed it off from the rest of the bay, with the original air dam at the front feeding cold air into near the filter. It sits flush with the bonnet so no heat gets in from the engine bay.

Thanks.
I may try doing something along those lines myself.

Here's the pic guys.

As I said it looks dodgy, but it works and does the job.

Looks better from the front, but it was a quick pic to show how it still gets the cold air from the front air feed.

Got a few CM's clearance all the way around.

If I ever can be bothered I will make a box and bling the bay up, bot for now, I don't care
