New trye sizes

I have a my07 2.0r with the 17s that need new tyres. After phoning beaurepairs and talking to a very unhelpful guy he said there wasnt much choice in the standard 215/45/17s. He gave me a price of $260 a corner for SP3000's (on special). He also said i have to stay with the size they came with. Is this true if the car is still under warranty? i know alot of guys on here have changed to wider tyres etc.

there seems to be a good choice of 215/55 available, would this fit on without a drama? its not like there would be a fitting size problem from the larger sidewall as the car is not lowered.

if anyone can recommend someone to see (on the northern beaches) for some tyres and advice id appreciate it.

First point: Go elsewhere. There are heaps of options for 215/45/17 - one of the most common 17" sizes along with 235/45/17 (which are way too wide in this instance).

What is your budget for tyres?
I'd be looking to Federal 595ss for a good performer in mid price range, or even a Toyo Proxes 4 if you want to spend a little more and want a Japanese made tyre.

oh to have the choice range of the OEM 17's. Most of the big name tyre models are available in the 215/45R17 size. You can spend big for the top Goodyear, or go cheap with Cheng Shins or something. Me? I'd spend the extra as insurance.

There's a good reason why they're only $120. Actually, probably at least two (how good they are as a tyre and date of build)

Wow, those 3000's have gone up in price

I bought a set of 215/45 17's for my SP23 & they set me back like $200 a corner!

In regards to the tyre size, I would suggest sticking to the factory size... There is a pretty damn good selection is that size

Take the Kumho KU36's for example... A few of my friends just picked up a set for $159 a corner, which is a great price IMO... & that was in the 215/45 17 btw

nangkangs are rubbish that why they are $120. had them on my astina no grip and it was a 1.8 auto :roll:

i agree nakangs are rubbish, i had them on my old pulsar in 195/50's and they didnt last long at all, and that wasnt because they were grippy either!

i dont mind spending 200-300 a corner for something good. i got a quote from a goodyear centre that has the easter sale on (buy 3 get the 4th free), and the quote was $910 for goodyear eagle f1's (fitted, balanced and aligned)

im thinking thats a pretty good deal. otherwise he recommended the Goodyear LS200-II's at $850.

bob jane has pirelli dragons for $209 a corner. they any good?

I got some 215/45/17 Bridgestone Potenza RE001's fitted to my 04 GT today. Jax Quickfit has them on special at the moment. Only $201 per tyre. Makes the RE050a's seem rather expensive I think.

have a look at the toyo range mate..

i would stay away from the Pirelllis and alike tyres unless you want to pay serious coin...

better bang for your buck with the Jap range of rubber imo..

damn straight it is. bloody good type that. make sure you get something made in the last 12 months

just make sure of the dates.

you should be able to get 225/45 on suby 17s...

i've got 225/45/17 RE001s and they're awesome...

and only $230 a corner...

most RE050's i've found are $350+ a corner

Doesn't that throw your speedo out a bit?

If the stock tyre is 215/45 17... I would've been going a 225/40 17 to keep the rolling radious nice & close to stock.
