Track day out at Morgan Park – Warwick

Postby AdamW » Wed Mar 18, 2009 7:48 pm

Was $120 for the day, I ripped my front passenger seat, rear seat and everything out of the boot, so reduced weight by over 100kg and she went like a rocket.. Next track day I will have a set of 17’s with race tyres and a better bucket seat.. I also had suspension tunned for the track, so it handled superb and kept up with the WRX STi’s..

There were a good mix of cars.. EVO’s, STi’s, Porsche GT3, 340kW Brock commodore, Old school BMW.. Only one liberty tho, all the WRX owners were a bit surprised I was able to keep up (and were greatly impressed by the styling of liberty) .. A couple of the EVO’s had track tyres so they were a few seconds faster, I will have to try and keep up with them next time.. The reduction in weight made a massive difference.. The Porsche GT3 was in a league of its own.. An awesome day tho, had a heap of fun.

I had to let someone else do a few laps in my car so I could get some photos of it, so I ended up getting my tuner to take it for a spin.. He has a new EVO and even he was impressed with the way it performed. I always wondered if a WRX would have much performance over the liberty..

Nice work. Have you done much work on your car or is it mostly standard?

I would have thought Evo's and WRX's would maul a Liberty at the track.

Yeah I had a terrible time trying to stay in my seat.. You either have to push real hard on the steering wheel so you are wedged back in your seat, or with window down have one hand holding onto door while you corner..

Acceleration has a lot to do with power to weight.. Stock liberty is only 40kg heaver than WRX.. Mine was now a fair bit lighter without seats, spare wheel etc.. Reduced weight also helped with cornering..

MODS

TEIN Coilovers (track tuned)
Adjustable front & rear sway bars

MRT Exhaust (Center section & down pipe)
Hyperflow intercooler
CAI with Pod
EcuTek Tune

Upgraded brake rotors

19” Wheels with Yokohama Advan Sport

About 180kW at the wheels (was 130kW standard)

I took a few hundred shots on the day. I am glad a few turned out ok..

Wheels – Kahn RS-V – First time I spotted them was in picture below.. They are 20’s on Aston Martin tho.

I normally run 35 series profile, but put 40's on for track day.. They do look a bit more aggressive with the 35 series on..

How good is Morgan Park???????? Bloody fantastic track.
Who organised the day out there or was it part of an advanced driving morning/afternoon?

Yeah is a pretty sweet track.. Not much room for speed runs tho..

The guy who did my mods at OP Sport organises them every few months.. Anyone can show up..
