Passenger Seatbelt Warning Beep

Let me first say that I NEVER drive anywhere if ANYBODY doesn't have their belt on.(even my 45yo mate who never wears one in his own car automatically puts it on in my car) All I want is to be able to put something on the seat without it making the most annoying beep in the world. I was going to just snip that green wire but another friend wondered if it was a case of pressure on the seat completing or breaking the loop? i:e if i cut it, will the sound just go permenantly? any info would be helpful... thanks

adam, ive found i cant even carry a 2lt milk on the passenger seat.. ive worked out exaclty where the pressure sensor is in the seat, and now strategically pack things in the front. or i just put it on the floor.. ha ha.. sorry im no help, just throwing in my 2 cents worth

Some of us just unplug the socket underneath the seat, this will get rid of the "irritating" sound, all other stuffs remains unchanged.

thanks magoo, I will now look under the seat for the socket. all i did before was check from the side and found the wires.

I've read somewhere that disconnecting the wire harness under your seat will also affect/disable airbag operation, if you just want to disable the chime there are easier ways to do it (clicking method )

sorry et but 5 hours sleep and 9 days straight at work have made me feel a bit ... is the "clicking method" just putting the belt in? by the way, thanks for the info on the airbag function? losing the noise isn't so important to me that i would compromise safety!

We have confirmed with the workshop that it will not affect the airbags operation, otherwise we will not compromise this safety feature.

Haha, I remember the first time I had this happen, didn't know WTF was going on.
I ended up ringing Subaru's roadside assist number, they had no idea what it was over the phone.
I was driving out in Gipsland at the time and about 50Km's away from the last town (where I noticed a Subaru dealership), I decided to turn back and go and see the dealer and find out what was happening (only had the car for about a month back then).

Luckily for me I noticed the little seatbelt light up near the interior mirror and worked out what was going on about 5 minutes later. Saved myself an hour of backtracking and the embarrassment of the dealer explaining what had happened.

I'm a rep and pretty much always have my diary, Melway and maybe a laptop on the passenger seat. Now I just know where the spot is that sets it off and I can stack my crap around it.

if you wanna talk about WTF situations and ensuing dealer embarrasment..
the DAY I got my 2.0L I drove it straight to work and went to lock it with the remote...... nothing? stepped a bit closer..... nothing? phoned the dealer who said bring it back. drove from glebe to parramatta (30- 50 mins depending for non-syd). guy grabbed key.. lockunlocklockunlock.... seems to be fine mate?!?! holycrapsalad.
it turns out that the immediate area around my pub has some funny waves happening and (literally) one park will work but move 2m and nothing. for all who have experienced this the first thing to try is hold your key at the top right of the windscreen about 2-3 cm away. 85% of the time this works for me. yours may be different.. you just gotta find "the spot"

Clicking method:
turn key to acc on
plug/unplug seatbelt 20 times in rapid succession
turn off key

Have you ever watched the Super Size Me documentary? Do what that guy does and you'll be sure to activate the sensor.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. The seat belt chime is annoying me! I've trick the clicking method but it doesn't seem to work for me. Does anyone have any further tips with the clicking method? Or got some pictures of the plug I should be pulling out? Thanks
