Under Seat Subs?

Postby Ginger Ninja » Mon Feb 23, 2009 8:44 pm

Anyone get the under seat sub woofer from Subaru?

I'm looking at the Focal one and just wondering what they're like.

Im looking to reclaim some of my bootspace at the moment and have been looking at both the focal and the qmax invisibass.

I havent done any measurements but i think the qmax is a fair bit higher than the focal and may not fit under the seats.

I've heard good things about both and am hoping to get to a car audio store this weekend to compare the two.

Well I'm booked in for some Alpine bits and a Focal under seat sub. I've been hearing good things so we'll see how it goes.

It's going in early next week. I'll post up when it's done.

Well it's all in now. The Focal sub was a tight fit and some of the sound deadening material needed to be shaved so the seat could slide without contact.

I had the front door speakers upgraded, added an amp and the sub all at the same time so it's a bit hard to tell which was the best value but I'm happy with how it sounds. Obviously not as much punch as a full size sub but I wasn't looking to blow the windows out.

Only thing that's bugging me is there's a background "hiss" now. I only hear it between songs and when listening to the radio but is it possible to get rid of? How?

Pics pics :) did you take them on the way during the install??

Sounds like your impressed with the quality? how much did it all set you back, if you don't mind me in asking :)

The hiss? hmm it's all plugged in nice an tight? no other wires touching each other? or any part of metal?

I didn't get any photos of the install as I dropped it off before work and picked it up later on. Here's how it sits under the passenger seat with the seat way forward. Normally you can't see it at all. I just need to find some way of stopping it from moving about (not that it moves much).

It also has a small dial to increase/decrease the bass which I've attached to the centre console near the shifter so it's easy to tune for different music.

I'm happy with how it sounds for the most part. Some music sounds brilliant, even when up loud. Some stuff is a bit too heavy on the bass (more noise than bass), although tuning it down a bit helps it's not perfect. Some of this is due to noise from the door trim so I'll fix this first and see if that helps.

I'm wondering if there's some equaliser in the OEM head unit that is set for standard speakers with no sub. That's sort of what it sounds like. Unfortunately I don't know enough about car audio to know what to change and it seems like the more I read, the more confused I get.
