3.0R Q's........

Postby (((sonic))) » Sat Mar 07, 2009 9:01 am

Hey All,

With a growing family i have decided to bite the bullet and move on from my VW Bora (V6 4Motion) onto a MY05 Liberty 3.0R Wagon, first impressions are "WOW" a nice punchy motor in a well finished car...

I pick up my wagon in three days so am getting quite excited!!!!

I have only driven (test) the liberty in the day and was wondering what the lights are like on the liberty's (the lights on the Bora where awful) does the liberty have xenon lights?

Wth the Mcintosh stereo is it mp3 ompatable (does it have a AUX plug??)

I am sure i will have a lot more questions in the near future...

I look forward to picking up the lib and taking it for a run over the mountains to stretch its legs :)

Don't think so mate, but its nothing a little after-market HID can't fix.

If you're anal about your lights you can also go down the retrofitting path

MY05? Headlights are not HID's (which I presume is what you mean by Xenon - you can get incandescant Xenon globes by the way  )
McIntosh is not MP3 compatible. There is a Clarion plug-in unit that has been mentioned a few times (have a look in the audio section) that can do the trick for you though

I pick it up tomorrow...

An 05 silver liberty wagon, it's funny as a 35 year old I am acting like a kid before Xmas, still have the 4mo Bora, still deciding if I will hang onto it or sell it..(it listed on carsales so will wait and see...)

Another question I have is, how do you tell the difference between a 3.0 and a 2.5 liberty at a glance, as they have no in ya face badges?

I am off to Mudgee in the next week or so, if the liberty handles like a cat on carpet (like the Bora) through the mountains and is responsive I will be stoked....

Stay tuned!

Welcome Sonic... You should post an intro & show us some pics of your new ride :D

1.) Standard lights on the pre-face lifted Libertys (MY04-MY06) do not have HIDs... But talk to hks180 (NSW) or tangcla (VIC) in regards to getting the HID kits... A lot of us have them & are loving it :D

2.) The standard Mac head unit on the pre-face lifts does not play MP3's nor does it have a 3.5mm input... As Smythie has mentioned, there is a Clarion unit you can get so you can use your iPod :D

3.) Aside from the rims & brakes, the front bar is the biggest difference. In fact, it was the only pre-face lift model to have a different front end here in Australia. Which makes it unique in it's own right... But also sucks if you want to get an STI front lip :P

Oh... & good to see another member of Team Wagon! :D

Welcome Sonic,

You will love the 3.0R except for the "turbo lag" when you try to kick-down (for the 5sp Auto). There are lots you can do in terms of improvements and searching through the posts will keep the spark ignited.

I have a MY05 3.0R Premium 5AT, with the following mods:

1. V-Tune from STI Docklands in Melbourne
2. Apexi Dry Filter
3. "Resonatorectomy" a mod found in this forum
4. Oil Extreme additive to the engine oil
5. LEDs for all interior lights (Map and Dome)
6. LED Parkers, Boot and Number Plate lights
7. Hitech Quad Tip mufflers
8. Philips "XtremePower" Halogen Bulb in Low and High Beams,
9. Philips "CrystalVision" Halogen Bulb in the Fogs.

Considering:

a. HID Kit, probably Philips from a local Philips dealer for the Low Beam only at this point.
b. Upgrading the Macintosh and Speakers for a fully Integrated Kenwood system with Dual DIN Head Unit, Nav Unit, Bluetooth Unit and Reversing Sensor Camera (if I can find all the right components).

Once the upgrade bug bites, you will be hooked!

BTW, what is your location? It helps when you are trying to find help or local suppliers.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

MY05 models had the 3.0RB with 6 sp manual and 18" 7 spoke rims, and 3.0R with 5sp slusher and the "standard" 17" 2.5/2.0T 5 spoke rims.

Both 3 litre MY05 models had the chrome surround front grille (all other libs had black plastic surround) and also chromed strips running along the side on whatever the panel is called beneath the doors.

From the rear you cannot tell the difference between an MY05 3.0R, 3.0RB, 2.5 or 2.0T.

MY06 was a bit different, as they added an auto option to the 3.0RB. All 3.0R's are auto though.

Sad that I know all this.....

Congrats on the purchase by the way - I absolutely loved my MY05 RB wagon - even thought it was a lemon.

Dwayne

Guys,

I fixed this issue by badging the rear LHS with "3.0R" letters. I got enough to do the sides as well, but I am not going to do that now, so I have two sets of 3.0R stick-on letter sets available.

Any takers? :)
