machining an offset of a wheel

Postby 541NTT » Fri Mar 06, 2009 11:10 am

Hi Guys,

this is to follow on from my other thread http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?t=4436

now i started a new thread because this may be searched in the future, the wheels i want are a +35 offset wheel, so they will stick out past the guards and look shit, the wheels arent genuine and can be bought in different sizes/stud patterns/ offsets from tempe tyres.

my question is being a rim used for multiple applications could i buy these +35 rims, and get the back of the hup on the rim machined down 10 mm to make it a +45 offset wheel?

You could always get your fenders rolled and flared to accommodate the wheel instead. The rears should clear ok, but the front is where you have to pay attention. But I reckon if you're not sitting too low and you flare your fenders enough, you might be able to make it work.

Another option is to get a wide body kit/ flare kit similar to the outbacks
if Tempe say no to machining I'd believe it but if they said yes it can be machined, I would get a second opinion from a engineer. Because some wheels have enough meat around the Hub area & can be safely machined

ahha yeah like an albero wide body? ha i wish! nah its not worth the hassles to me i think, i thought being that they are used on different offsets it would be ok, i thought that maybe tempe brought them in as a blank wheel then machined the offset and drilled the stud pattern as that would make more sense than purchasing all different sizes, offsets and patterns..
