hey everyone

Name: My names Chris, nicknames Bax.
Ride: Currently driving an 87 VL Commodore that I've had as a project car for the past few years.
Location: I'm in Central QLD.
Mods: Sheez, with the current car there's really too much too list, it was basically a ground up rebuild. All new suspension, new interior or reconditioned interior. New engine with a hiflow turbo, front mount intercooler, custom plenum, 3" turbo back, resprayed in Bionic Blue over Silver- yada yada yada.

Plans: Next 6 months I plan on finishing it off so I can buy a Liberty, decided it was time for a more grown up car. So to finish I need to get my electric windows and mirrors sorted, finish my stereo install and get an R33 skyline manual gearbox in to replace my near dead current box.

Occupation: My main occupation is CAD drafter for an electrical company/ designer doing distribution design for electrical work between 240v and 22kv.

Year of birth: I'm currently 25, born in 1984.

Interest: For fun, bit of a gadget freak, absolutely love photography and reading about new and old things. Love playing around with cars - as much as I hate it sometimes its a good break.

Previous Rides: I've only ever had the two cars, one was a 1988 VL that I converted to turbo before I sold it, and this one which I got for a bargain and was meant to just be a dodgy car so I could save, but I ended up pumping cash into it. Apart from that I have been driving either a VX Commodore, an 88 Honda Prelude or a 1995 Suzuki Sierra.

Heres a pic of my current car and what it looked like when I got it. Not a Subaru, don't hate me!

Basically signed up here because I want to buy a liberty, Not 100% sure on what model yet, or what year. So I'm in here for some guidance, and then if/when I do buy, to get some help with modifications etc.

And now it looks like. (Just ignore that the panels don't line up 100%, that's another to fix asap)

Welcome mate :)

What are you after in a Liberty, outright performance or luxury and comfort?

Also price range will determine which one you get too.

Howdy, I'm not entirely sure what I want, I was initially chasing some performance, so I liked the idea of the Boxer, with future plans to eventually give it a few mods, exhaust and a tune with either a chip or aftermarket ecu. I'm not too sure whats available for these kinds of things. No internal modifications though if I can avoid it.

Other modifications that I'd probably get around to would be just lowering/upgrading suspension, maybe upgrading the brakes. But that would be about it.

Damn hot where I'm from as well, so as much as I'd love leather interior, I'd settle for cloth.

Ideally I guess I'm looking for perhaps an 05 GT, in black or white. And I guess I have around 30k to spend initially. However, my only problem seems to be I want a manual.

As for comfort, coming from an 22 year old car - a kick in the back of the head is considered comfortable in comparison :D

Thanks for the welcomes..

Cheers guys, now I begin my lurking until I finally purchase.

But I'll ask a few questions while I'm here.
Manual gearboxes, I've heard a heap of bad things about wrx manuals dying. Are they the same box?

Is the GT-B spec the only GT with manual?

If I had a choice between a GT-B spec or stock GT would it be worth spending the extra (manual choice aside)

Tell me about the 3.0, 6cylinder option. Anyone recommend it over the Boxer engine?

What do most people do for mods, who is pushing out the most power on these forums?

Many qld members?

I guess that's about all for now. Thanks in advance guys, I'm looking forward to getting it, just have to keep on looking.

The 3 litre is still a boxer. Regarding differences between that and the turbo models (2.5 or 2.0) you're probably best getting test drives in each of them to see what best tickles your fancy. Of course, if you are looking at modding for increased power, the turbo models are best (unless you're going to spend big on force feeding the H6)

I *think* the GT could be had in a manual but it would have only been the 5 speed rather than the 6 speed that the spec b's have

Ah touche.

I'd have to say that the turbo model would be my choice regardless of what the 3litre has. Simply being that it's already a turbo model and it'd be easier to modify. I've done two turbo conversions with vl's and I know how costly and annoying they are to upgrade.

I guess what you're saying is that I should be looking for a spec b and go from there.

I'm seeing a heap of different front bars and grills.
Can someone explain that to me? Is this something people have done because others look nicer then others or?
