As I mentioned in the 3.0 section, a woman ran a red light a few weeks ago and nailed my Liberty. Finally got around to uploading a pic of the damage, taken on a mobile so shitty quality but you can see it's pretty nailed. Bent chassis at the firewall (look at the pass side guard lighting, you can see it's different to the side of the car...)

I'm insured, woman who ran the red was driving a government car full of teenage kids, she's disputing the claim saying she had a greeen light so insurance are arguing it out.
Amazingly the police did not attend, they were called twice, ambo's requested attendance as did the fire brigade but all were told 'as there was no serious injuries or damaged public property that they were too busy'.

My daughters 19 yo girl friend was killed last year in a lesser accident than this .
I don't know you or your family but I honestly hope they never have the misfortune to be killed or let alone injured

This has set a new low for this good site.

It is always painful to see nice cars getting destoryed by some other idiots. I swear some people should never be allowed to drive a car, such as that human failure who crashed into your car. I am not surprised the police won't come, even though they really should. Someone rear ended my parent's car last year, and even though the police station was literally 5 min drive away, they refused to come because "nobody was injured and no public property was damaged"

She was driving a government foulcan which wasn't too bad, not driveable but didn't seem as drastic as my damage.

Insurance are fixing it, unfortunately it's just not enough damage to total the car. I went and saw it at the panel shop on Friday as they have stripped the front down, it doesn't look so bad when all the bent panel work is taken off.

Panel shop was great, very very professional and clean, they are a Subaru approved repairer (along with BMW and Porsche) so I have some faith that they can repair to brand new.

As the car is within 12 months old they have to replace all panels with brand new, no bog or repair which is reassuring. Chassis rails will straighten apparently, they have bent exactly where Subaru designed them to.

Mate just from my knowledge.. is there anyway you can get a 2nd opinion before it begins? Or are they fixing it now?

I've been told, and I know for a fact, here in NSW if the "Chassis rails" are bent, it's a ride off, becasue it's unsafe..

Your situation would be the first one I've ever hurd that hasnt been written off? Just doesnt sound right to me, unless they changed the laws? or maybe becasue, as you said, subaru made it like that, so much easier to repair??

Just a thought mate, just never hurd of a car not being written off once the chassis rails are bent...

There have been 3 companies look at the car and all have submitted similar estimates to repair. AAMI took ages (2 weeks) to finalise assessment as there were some concerns for motor etc, they stripped the thing down before final decision was made. I've argued for a new car but they just won't do it.

They can't cut and shut chassis anymore (especially from a big insurance company, can you imagine my law suit if they bodged it?), that's illegal, they can fix designated repair zones though, there is an outer and inner rail with a crumple zone, they remove a repair panel (where the crumple zone is) on the chassis, remove the inner rail, straighten the outer rail and iinsert a new inner rail and weld it back together. Designed that way apparently.

Out of interests sake, I asked a lot of questions of the panel shop... Subaru has a 3mm tolerance with their chassis from the factory, BMW has a 2.5mm tolerance. The laser table they are doing my car on, has a 0.1mm tolerance, not that I really believe it but theoretically it may actually come back straighter than what it was

As you can imagine, I was very concerned for the quality the Lib would come back, after seeing the M3 they were working on and the professionalism of the staff, I am somewhat more confident that they will fix it right.
